I really liked 15 but I agree, doesn't really look like a FF game compared to others based on my limited play with them.

I am the complete opposite. I hate completely open world games and prefer a structured narrative far more. I just lose track of what I am doing, or if I am even on the main pathway. I tried an Elder Scrolls (Oblivion I think), and when the game ended I was pretty much in shock as I had no idea what the main story beats I had hit that led me to the end. It is one of the reasons why Final Fantasy VI is not among my favourites in the series. The World of Balance was fun for me. It had side missions to it that you could explore, but it was a structured narrative. Then the World of Ruin hit and it lost me somewhat. The more open structure of the game, having to find and re-recruit your party members. It lost some of its appeal to me.

I've too many games to play as it is, but will give it a blast at some point. The turn based combat is meant to be some of the best ever seen in a JRPG

Has anyone tried Final Fantasy 14? I have been having a go on the free trial, it seems a bit complicated for my simple mind having never played a MMORPG before and all I have been doing so far is mind numbing fetch quests.

I played 14 quite a lot a few years ago. It was a few expansions back when SAM was released I think.

At the time I played as a SCH and my mate played as a DK. Had pretty much all the best gear in the game at the time. It’s just a drain end game as it is a rinse and repeat of daily’s. Do your weekly’s for the gear pieces you need. And then push on with doing the raids or whatever they are called in FF14. Some of the end game tactics are ridiculous mind you.

Just finished FF5 btw.

Harder going than I remembered it in terms of enduring various sections (some random battle areas are WAY too frequent, and get old fast), but still good fun. Definitely one of the better games in the series IMO. The job system really adds a much needed extra dynamic to the game.
