Here’s hoping he has a good season next year. But let’s not do that Forest thing of lumbering him crazy expectations only for everyone to be saying “he’s shut” when he is taking time to adjust or just has a poor period, which will happen I am sure.
I think he will be in and out if the side a bit under CH.

We have a lot of the answers to the questions we have in house. Johnson, Carvalho could both fit into this squad nicely without looking elsewhere. I hope we are patient with them and back the right horses for once. If they fail, they fail but give them a chance to fail.

Agreed. End of the day. Getting good people are important & from a pure football perspective finding a balance is the most important and we need more players in the squad who have natural ability on the ball and those 2 will bring it. We just had too many people who worked hard in the middle of the park. I think Yates, Cafu and Colback will bring enough industry to cover a season.

With Joao. It surely wasn't a case of his wage hurting us financially but more the best for all parties after what had happened. Look, we know Joao isn't Maradona but if he was given trust in the right environment he can flourish. Players like Mighten, Johnson, Krov and Garner around him will surely bring out the best in him too.

Not Carvalho again. Hes made 15 appearances for a 2nd division Spanish side this year, most as a substitute. Hes scored 0 goals. Objectively theres no evidence or pointers that suggest he's going to be ripping it up as a 10 for us next year. CH might work his magic but it seems a long shot. Not impossible, but a long shot.

For what it's worth, I don't think Carvalho would fit into what Hughton seems to want in a number 10. Krovinovic and Cafu, who he has largely chosen as his number 10 are more dynamic, rather than creative, types.
Johnson probably stands a better chance of fitting that mould.

Far too many extenuating circumstances to Carvalhos Forest career do date to categorically deny him a chance to play in a side who wants the football. He wont have to go looking for it under Hughton & he can play with his head up. As long as theres movement in front of him, he could well be an assett here.

Needs beefing up a bit, but him & Krovinovic vying for that 10 slot looks a decent position to be in.

Apart from the 6 months when he actually started games here and was one of the best players in the division.

Who said he was going to rip it up anyway? He is more than capable to contribute towards the squad especially with a manager that actually plays a number 10 unlike Sabri & MON.

Like I say in my previous post, why go out spending elsewhere when the answers are in house.

    I probably agree.

As long as we don't close ourself off to options.

Well we will have to agree to disagree on that. Even when he got consistent starts all I saw was inconsistency. With the right wind behind him, with the team set up a certain way, when he's given a free role then yes he's a solid technical player, with a good eye for a pass.
When any of those things isn't right, or he doesn't fancy it he's a waste. That hardly fits with Hughton was of playing (or indeed the majority of successful championship sides over the last decade which as well as other things are always hard working and efficient).

I'm completely done with "luxury" players-Knockers is another. I don't think we can afford them from a playing POV, success will be built on 10 hard working outfield players...

...And I should add that I think we are all still swayed by the ridiculous transfer fee payed for him. We all think there HAS to be a good player in there somewhere, one who can provide a difference otherwise why did we drop 13M on him??.

Fact is he will be back next season because we won't be able to offload him. Rather like Knockers, our desire to recoup on our F'up is not other clubs problem...

I couldn't give a toss mate - it has been done to death.

All I know is if we show belief in him he's more likely to succeed. If we put him on the scrapheap like we have sent way too many players, then he will fail.

If you're not interested in what other people think why are you on a discussion forum?.
I might not agree with you, but I'm interested in what you think. You know theres nothing I'd like more than Carvalho to prove me wrong and get us to the top of the division. I'm all for giving players and managers a proper chance, so lets see-for sure Carvalho ain't going anywhere, he's currently worth nothing so we've got him back next season whatever any of us think, unless we are going to take a 13M haircut...

I'm not bothered about Carvalho's fee, what's done is done and we can't undo that.

I'd like to see him given another go because he showed that he has something to offer when he was used properly under Karanka. If we can get him playing at that standard again he could be a great asset.

I get that POV. Lets see what Hughton thinks, my guess is he'll get a good look at him in pre-season and that will seal the deal one way or the other.

I don't think CH thinks Cafu is a #10 for one second, he just shoehorned him in because we didn't have any other options.

In terms of style, Krovinovic is more like Carvalho than he is like Cafu, so it wouldn't surprise me if Hughton wanted a look at Carvalho. To be honest, I think he'd fit the set-up quite well, the bigger question is if he wants to be here, and if Hughton can trust him. It can't be easy mentally coming back to a club where you meant to flourish but got bombed out of the side and then out of the club pretty sharpish.

If Carvalho does get a second chance here, then I don't think we'll be in for Krovinovic, because Johnson instead will chomping at the bit instead. I know he's played more of a wide left for Lincoln but I think we'll go into next season with Mighten the first choice and Ameobi the backup choice, so Johnson's going to need to settle for trying to get the #10 slot.

Biggest question for me is what we do with wide right. Assuming we don't bring Knockers back then we've got Lolley and that's it. Need to pull something out the bag in that position for me.

Playing 46 games in a season, you can’t just have three men for the 3 midfield positions in Hughts‘ preferred 4-2-3-1, you need more.

Cafu will have a role, Yates will have a role, Colback will have a role (probably not as a starter though) and there’s no reason why Brennan Johnson won’t get a chance to show what he can do either.

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

Everyone was saying at the start of his Forest career he'd be ideal if he was playing alongside better players (ie, ones more on his wavelength). Now we have more of those 'better' players, we seem to have written him off. I agree, Mase, having him as competition to Krovi seems the most logical option.

Neither Krovinovic or Carvalho are going to want to play second fiddle to each other.

We'll start next season with one or the other or neither, not both.

Said this at the start of this season we clogged the midfield with battlers and sideways passers. Sabri loaned out a better midfield than we kept. I hate the mentality that you need big physical players to get out of the league. Barnsley do ok with an average height of 3ft 2 across the midfield. Norwich are running away with the league with lightweight Keiron Dowell.

Funnily enough, we've picked up no end now our midfield has two excellent ball players in it.

In fairness, Sabri played some of the most turgid football I've seen at the city ground in years. Good back 5, give it to Lolley and hope for the best. Whoever played 10 under Sabri was doomed as the other two midfielders were 50 yards away from them. Messi would have struggled to make an impact in that team.

Despite what the stats say, he's a tidy player. Given we're skint, it would foolish to not bring him back and let CH run the rule over him. No doubt he has ability.

However, I think his side will go up and probably sign him in a cut price deal.

    Well let’s see.
Only thing I will call you out on is that Messi would very definitely made an impact. Let’s not get carried away!

Taking a chance on Carvalho again at the expense of taking a chance on Brennan would be a mistake.

I'm excited to see Brennan in a forest shirt next season.
