I'm no fan of Zach Clough either, but I fail to see what Forest gain from having him rot at the club for the remainder of his contract. It really is best for all parties if he moves on this month, even if we have to foot the bill.

Looking at that transfer window I would say it was very much a Gary Brazil transfer window, I doubt Fawaz even knew who he was.

He had a contract shoved under his nose by Fawaz which was far more than his actual worth, why should he just walk away from it because we don't like the contract any more. When he came in, he put in plenty of good performances, enough to be encouraged about his future. His face clearly didn't fit with subsequent managers and found himself on the fringes for a long time. He has tried loan spells but they never worked out either. Let him go play football somewhere else, even if Forest have to pay the thick end of his wages. Same with anyone else in the bomb squad.

He is perfectly entitled to collect his ludicrous wages every week, probably more than most make on here in a year of hard graft. However I'm sure he has had no end of opportunities to go out on loan or seek a permanent move elsewhere. For whatever reason he has chosen not to. He hasn't been anywhere near the first team under a number of different managers which tells its own tale.

By sending him out on loan and yet still picking up 100% of his daft wages we are benefiting the loaning club and also Clough completely at our expense. They get a risk free signing, and he gets to put himself in the shop window for his inevitable free transfer. All we get out of it is a mardy player away from the club, but lets be honest I can't imagine he's involved at all anyway.

instead put him on gardening leave, let him collect his money (as that's seemingly all that's important to him), but let's not do him any favours.

He owes us nothing, but we owe him nothing either.

Well said FCT. He has had many opportunities to go out and play some football with us paying most, if not all of his wages as you suggest, which, aside from failed efforts at Bolton and Rochdale, he has declined, as is his prerogative.

Putting him on 'gardening leave' would have been the appropriate course of action, except that we're obliged to provide him with the very same training, medical and rehab facilities as those players who take their professional responsibilities with the seriousness that the job demands.

The fact that he's played less than a handful of U-23 games over the last three years possibly suggests that the likes of Jimmy Gilligan, Chris Cohen and now Andy Reid, had/have at least some disinclination about giving him game-time with their development squads.
