"Charlie don't surf for his hamburger momma!!"
We tend to forget how bad the graphics were in the VGA days, and how expensive the computers were. If I remember correctly my pc (Dell 386), monitor, graphics card plus a printer cost around £2,400. Fortunately the company I worked paid half and gave an interest free loan on the rest. The down side was having to dial in to support the overnight systems - that was fun with the speed of dial up back then, especially if you had to dial on from our company to a clients site. By that stage characters appeared every two seconds or so. Life would have been so much easier with broadband.
Somebody gave me a copy of Doom so I never got to read the back story.
I tend to think anyone who had a PC in the early 90s had a copy of Doom; it was quite frankly brilliant.
„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“
„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

I did, but Doom wasn't for me. The graphics were bad even for the time, and I don't really like shooting things.
Quaser/Laser Quest/Paintballing sort of thing. Never enjoyed any of that either. I didn't join in with shooting AK-47 at the Cu Chi tunnels. Not as part of some anti-crusade. Just never saw the fun in shooting anything.
So Doom. Boring.
Next....
Back to Pokemon, Nintendo's market value has increased by £7bn on the back of this. Brilliant concept.
Passed me by.

My team are unhappy the UK game starts today. Said there were already server problem last night when Germany joined. I think they were playing the NZ, with it bigger islands and smaller pop, version. First Brexit, and now this. Stand by for the brain drain.
Come home put the tape in the Speccy and press play, go have my tea and hopefully come back up and Double dragon is loaded..... loved that game until streets of rage blew us all away.... well i say streets of rage, my mate got a Japanese version from his dodgy uncle with a jap adaptor.... so we played Bare knuckles but it were the same game.

Ah, good times![]()
Find it far harder to get into modern gaming. You have to dedicate way to much time to most games. Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Street Fighter 2, Golden Axe, DJ Boy etc, - all games which you could just ahve a quick 20-30 min blast on and play with mates too.
Plus, for some reason, I always thrived on Billy Lee
