This isn't politics. A bit of basic science will tell you this is a bad idea. Why do we never do things logically in this country?
Give them vaporizers. Problem solved. In any case, both sides are right... staff should not have to be exposed to any smoke and prisoners should not be forced to withdraw from such a pernicious addiction in that environment.

We had this problem in a hostel. The law changed to ban workplace smoking and the solution was to use one lounge as a smoking lounge, the other as a non-smoking lounge. As a smoker, I was expected to deal with stuff in the smoking lounge, because non-smoking staff refused to go on. Thing is, I smoked thin roll-ups, probably half a cig at a time, and also didn't want to be an enclosed space packed with people chaining through cheap pre-rolled stink-sticks.

You can always not go to prison though, if you don't want to be prevented from smoking.

Aren't they being banned indoors too?

Prisons have open air spaces. If the issue is staff and other inmates's health, then just restrict it to the yards. Even the City Ground worked that one out eventually...

Only in Wales, which is a foolish move.

I'm not sure outdoor rec happens often enough to sustain a nicotine habit.

They tried that at ours. Vapers to use designated smoking areas. Because that's where people who have given up smoking want to be.

I just ordered one of these. A robotic floor cleaner. It suits my style of house cleaning (i.e. do as little as humanly possible).

Some experts are sceptical about the claims made for Roxxxy, given the huge complexity of creating intelligent machines but the first version - which will sell for $7,000 (£4,530) - has had thousands of pre-orders, according to Mr Hines.

NASA have found flowing water on Mars, whilst this is an exciting discovery, I can't help agreeing with God on his take on it.

    Amazing discovery.

I wonder if this will impact on the planned missions to Mars in the next decade or so.

Someone has scanned and uploaded nearly 14,000 photos taken by astronauts on the various Apollo lunar missions to a Flickr group.

I've been working my way through this. It's wonderful.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

I nearly said it was a hell of a film set they made, but it just reminded me of a Mitchell and Webb sketch so I posted that in another thread instead.

You're supposed to put your own name back in the hat if you pull it out.
