Robert Lewandowski again was prominent, he’s already on seven goals for the season, alongside Dortmund‘s Erling Haaland - the Race for the Golden Boot this season will be interesting.

Fürth will have their work cut out to get anything from this match.

Game of the weekend is undoubtedly Saturday evening, when Borussia Mönchengladbach host Borussia Dortmund at Borussia-Park. Matches between Die Fohlen and Die Schwarzgelb are always entertaining affairs, and this one will see Dortmund coach Marco Rose return to his old side.

    Expect goals!
The more I watch this season of Bundesliga the more I'm convinced that the least exciting matches are those when Bayern are playing - and it's not only the matter of FCB's obvious dominance over their opponents and the inevitability of the result but also their style of play - Nagelsmann's Bayern is like a steam roller, they slowly start and then - still not picking too much speed - just crush their opposition, it's not even boring, it just lacks the flair..

It’s true, they aren’t the flair-team as under Pep or Hansi Flick, but they are ruthlessly efficient and absolutely grind opposing sides into the dirt.

And the quality they can bring from the bench is eye-watering.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

'kin hell, this match (Furth - Bayern) is so shit it's unbelievable. Bayern lead 3-0 even though they are individually and collectively very, very bad with Goretzka leading the race fot the title of the worst player tonight. Bayern look almost as bad as van Gaal's team of 2011.

And they went down to ten men - Pavard sent off - and still won, 1-3!

Don’t worry, Borussia-Derby tomorrow. That will be a cracker.

Shaping up to be a decent game in Rome. Currently Lazio 2-0 Roma. Sarri vs Mourinho, and it's all Roma atm.

Well if you want to announce yourself, smacking one in at the Boulogne end is a pretty good way to make yourself popular at le Parc des Princes.

What’s that old saying, form is temporary, class is permanent?

Yeah should be. Both teams playing well. I was surprised Palmeiras were able to beat Atl. Mineiro who had some nice momentum coming into the semi having knocked out both Boca and River.

Apparently an agreement for which of the two choices to replace the San Siro has been reached....

    They've gone for 'the cathedral'

Painful scenes in the Friday-night Bundesliga matchup between 1. FC Köln and Greuther Fürth as Köln striker Sebastian Andersson takes an opponents’ knee to the plums and goes down like a sack of potatoes.

Köln are winning 2-1, so maybe he will be happy with that.

    Looked a sore one, though.

Meanwhile, the VfB U21‘s are away to FC Gießen today, and the match is being officiated by the hilariously named Herr Roy Dingler:

Many apologies to Herr Dingler, I am sure he’s a competent Referee, but my immature sense of humour reduced me to giggles when I saw the team-sheet.

He was fucking magnificent today. He’s rapidly becoming a personal favourite of mine, because not only is he a top-class defender, he has the confidence and ability to bring the ball out from the back and charge forward and score a frankly ludicrous goal like this (and that is not the first time he’s done that, this season).

The price is apparently €3m in the summer. Already agreed as part of the loan from the Arsenal. Sven Mislintat, post Match, was trying (and failing) not to laugh at that money.

Mavropanos was unlucky, both with injuries, and because Arsène Wenger (who thought very highly of Mavropanos) left Arsenal a few months after he had bought the Greek.

We have occasionally asked around for him, but apparently he does not want to return to Greece at all (understandably so). He was well known, even as a kid in PAS Giannina, as gym crazy; he trained for hours even after the training session was over.
