The thread is racist against the youngest sibling, the Conference League, where the amateurs of Lincoln Red Imps put on a brave performance today against much-despised (by me at least) PAOK. They lost 0-2, but they could easily have drawn. And they loved every minute of it.

    Mind boggling.
Nice to see they got pumped by the best team in Spain. ¡Viva Betis!

Do Los Verdiblancos still have that crazy fan who is a baker, and brings a fresh loaf in the shape of the club badge to every home match?

    Proper fans.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

Haha don’t know, not heard of him. They are a great club though, with a huge loyal fanbase. Been through some shit, so nice to see them back on top, handing out European beatings to obscure no-marks from footballing backwaters.

If you haven’t already read them, I recommend Morbo by Phil Ball (as much a guide to Spanish life as it is about football, but there’s a cracking chapter on football in Seville) and The Frying Pan of Spain by Colin Millar (which is all about the rivalry between Sevilla and Betis).

They had also had a fan who came to matches with his dad’s urn and placed it on the seat where the old man had always sat. Until the club politely asked him to stop.

Seville-Betis is indeed one of the great rivalries of European football. It runs through families and you don’t really get a choice in who you support. Whether you’re an ageing barroom brawler or a hail-Mary Catholic girl, you identify with one of the two and stick with them, even if you don’t like football that much.

I used to work with a Seville native who once got a job serving half-time snacks at Sevilla, until her Betico dad put a stop to it. Yeah, that’s a childish thing for a father to do but I’ve got a sneaking regard for him. If you’re going to be football fan, do it irrationally.

Real Madrid, founders of the 'super league' have just lost 2-1 at home to Sheriff Tiraspol

Sheriff were given a 2% chance to win the fixture, and a 0.6% chance to win 2-1. Can't think of a bigger upset in recent times

There's no way that ref hasn't profited from that. That was a performance to make Moggi blush.

Yuri on the bench against Leicester tonight, would be nice to see him get a few minutes even if it's just so he can nail someone

That was so bad, Legia - Leicester game, Polish so called top league's level is close to bottom Championship/upper League One, but that was enough for Leicester who were incredibly shit.
It should have been 3-0, Legia's players wasting two amazing chances at the end of the game.

:-D True, he's quite a good player, watched him a few games so far and he's quick and dangerous, he was responsible for both those chances at the end of the match I wrote about.

Do we need a title change to include this new Europa Conference League bollocks?

Good to see Spurs treating it with the contempt it deserves.
