Thereís little more infuriating and frustrating than this...

'Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings' - Salvador Dali 1904-1989

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

Now I know why people don't keep fish in Greece. Hope they survived youth.

Are you telling me that don't love your fish enough to have a backup generator?

I sleep with background noise so my tv turned off and a power cut will usually set off any decent burglar alarm too smart arses.

Fish don't look in a great way. Keeping the light off for them for today and hope for the best.

Exactly, he just needs a secondary supply with an automatic change over function

He’s too tight to buy one so he doesn’t love his fish that much

Not just, but an hour ago ridden down the banks of the Trent past the WFCG.

Looked beautiful in the afternoon sunshine, but eerily quiet in these strange times.

You may have ridden past me. I took a long walk that way earlier. It was very quiet, but I presumed most were at work. Nice for a wander though. Becoming self unemployed has been a nice break.

.....sent a couple of (possibly condescending) emails to various managers highlighting a lack of management and procedures not being followed. I'm undecided whether I'll be ignored like normal, asked who I think I am or for once, listened to.

Oddly, I've also (yesterday) been offered the chance to step up into a more senior role, temporarily at least, this could get interesting

Bose are releasing version 2 of their sleep buds in October. I have to sleep with background noise as well (old, creaking house/not so old creaking wife) and they are the best thing I've ever had. Unfortunately the battery was rubbish on the first release so the 10 hours they claimed was down to about 15 minutes after a couple of months. After replacing them 3 times they withdrew the line completely with a full refund.

Apparently the new release has been independently tested so should be better.

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

I'll look into that. I only have a talk radio station on a very low level. Cheers mate.

So what do they give you, just low level white noise?

Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless.

How does background noise help? I struggle to sleep when it's to quiet and sometimes my tinnitus is a nightmare.

Essentially, the tinnitus is a neurological phenomenon that the brain represents as sound (pathologically its thought to be an excitation of the auditory nerve)...

Adding some noise actually gives the brain (auditory cortex) something to do so it forgets the tinnitus - basically giving it a deliberate signal that masks the false signal. It's known as Masking, btw.

Then, eventually, the brain will also disregard the white/pink noise as non-essential background noise and not focus on it although you will still be hearing it... like you're probably not hearing the fan in your computer (well, OK, now you are ) or your fridge, etc.

Strange isnít it? I like to fall asleep to silence. I love to just listen and tune in to every tiny detail stretching my hearing ability as far as I can.

Once Iím asleep, a bomb can go off and I might stir.
