    Some absolute belters there.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

I dig the Tele! P90s are my favourite pickups, fat like a paf but clear like a single coil.

I know nowt about acoustics to be fair but Yamaha do make nice guitars. Unfortunately they’ve never been cool, not since the old MIJ 2000 SG models. They are a brand that don’t hold or gain any value generally speaking.
Best bet is to search completed items on eBay to get a feel for what they sell for.

I had a look on Reverb, but there’s only one up for sale at the moment and that’s £350, but it’s a Japanese seller so there’s a premium there.

EBay might be worth looking at, as Bryn says.

Yamaha make excellent instruments though, they’ve never had the „marketing“ of some of the major brands but they are absolute quality.

I was kinda wondering where he had got to. Just checked and he hasn't looked at the forum since 3rd Feb. Hope he is OK.

A brief history of country electric guitar, lots of twangin' Teles and cool stories, I never knew James Burton invented light string sets and the reason why the G is unwound.

A cautionary tale about an Epiphone Les Paul

Last October I saw some videos put out by Epiphone and Joe Bonamassa about their latest collaboration a copy of his 1958 Les Paul 3 pickup Black Beauty. It looked great and when JB played it sounded even better than it looked (well it would wouldn't it?).
So I duly placed my advance order with Andertons, £749 for a Chinese guitar which I was a bit nervous about but hey whatever. I had been reading the reports about Epiphone being managed by a couple of Gibson hot shot managers and the product had really improved.
The guitar arrived in mid November looking smart in its special JB case so I open and first thing I notice is a couple of blemishes in the ebony frets, not a real problem just made it look a bit 'played' but not great.
So try and play it. This thing was a complete dog, the neck was about as straight as Snake Pass and I don't believe and two single frets were the same height. Getting it in tune was a struggle and getting it to stay there even more of a struggle. Intonate? Not a chance and the strings were truly awful, proper dull.
Now I would have just returned but there were no replacements and no more being made so I put it back in its case and forgot about it for the next 3 or 4 months.
Any way a couple of weeks ago I took it to a tech and he was quite horrified with the quality(apparently the truss rod was so far anti clockwise that it could go no further!)so I am now £100 lighter in the pocket but the guitar now plays and sounds as good as it looks.
So the moral of the story? If you buy Epiphone be prepared to spend to put things right or cough up for a Gibson apart from that it is just a story of me being parted from money.
Here is a picture of the guitar now hanging on my wall.

Sorry to read that mate, I’d have been gutted, furious in fact at £749.

Apparently Gibson low end models aren’t no better to hear some talk. I think any guitar at £500 or more should play like silk out of the box, it’s a lot of money and Andertons should be checking them.

I was pissed but had a lot of other stuff going on at the time. But Andy Farrell at Kimberly has set it up beautifully and it is now finally a nice guitar.
Andy is the bet set up man in the area.

Some good news, or maybe bad news (for my wallet); during the pandemic, my favourite local music shop, „Sound of Music“, decided to move location; previously they were across town near the Schwabstraße station, now they’ve shifted to a location near the Charlottenplatz.

Which is great because it’s down the end of my street.

Bad, because I’ll struggle to keep out of there now.

    Oh, well.

Got a banjo lesson from one of my musical friends this week. Looking forward to ripping the shite out of it. Looking at the traditional bluegrass style of playing
