Couldn't you just try out the different letter/number combinations then?

You'll be able to do it tomorrow. *SI have made it so they don't turn on the activation thing until Friday, so as to make sure everyone can play at the same time, as that is when the official release date is. *So even though you've been sent your copy early you won't be able to play it until tomorrow.

There's nothing wrong with your game, you'll be happy to know.

Has anyone managed to activate their product in the last hour or so?

I can't connect to SI to do it and their website is down.

It's a bit of a piss take that after paying them £30, I'm left with a disc that doesn't do anything.

I'm currently downloading a torrent, dunno if it will work or not though with the whole online authentication thing though. People are saying it works, so might as well try it.

I wonder if piracy does hurt them so much that they need a silly activation code?

As I have said to people before, I'd like to play the game but I am not shelling out £30 AGAIN, after buying about 6 or previous versions of it. There should be a loyalty or recycle scheme of some sort because I still have, or had 4 or 5 copies of various CM/FMs in my house and they have absolutely no value now at all.

And with loads of other great games out currently, FM is very far down my list, where as I'm normally excited to get it and play it.

Also, the first version was so riddled with ridiculous bugs the last two times... I wonder what it'll be this year.

Whether it does or it doesn't, having the stupid thing there hasn't stopped the game being released as a torrent already anyway.

It was a bad move by SI. Activation codes and the like severely piss off paying members to the extent they may well lose custom on next years stuff.
It also as you pointed out, doesn't really make a difference to torrenters.

Best way to get stop torrenting is for the producer to release as many torrents as possible in which the program doesn't work. That way, even though there'll be a few that do, the majority won't and as such the little thiefs ( :P ) will end up so frustrated after downloading 10+ fake torrents they go and buy it.
