    Default Game of The Year

With primary selfish needs i.e. i can't be arsed trawling through the various review sites, what do you guys consider to be the candidates for GOTY?

Please give up to three and state format and brief reason why.

    Will be interesting this year,

    New Vegas was crap.

    MW3 is abit 'mer'

Skyrim doesn't look as good as first saw

Fifa has improved but I doubt a sports game will ever win it.

Dead Island is ok to begin with but gets boring.

    Can't think of anything else

i think that there are far better games which sneak under the radar than the tripple a titltes which everyone gets suckered into buying.

the two games ive played this year (although they werent released this year) which constantly has me thinking "this is ace, im loving this" most of the way through were "divinity 2: the dragon knight" saga and "the saboteur" - both gave me endless hours of fun. The saboteur starts amaizing, hits a dip, but recovers and is a joy to play.

id deffinately say that the 3 worst games ive played so far this year are all aaa titles - dragon age 2, fallout: new vegas and dead space 2 - all start great but within a few hours become mind numbingly dull.

New Vegas was somehow worse in ever way from Fallout 3.

The engine made me think my Playstation was broke.

Gears of War 3 had a good story. Yes I do know my suggestions are very mainstream

yes, new vegas was unbelievable tedious and lacked in every department. not a patch on fallout 3

I'd say Portal 2 has to be up there for sheer brazen disregard of the industry standards. I wish more developers would put creativity before profit. Stick it to the man, baby.

They should bring out the Lord of the Rings games again.

I remember Two Towers on Ps2 was my childhood

In an attempt to bring a bit of discipline to the thread:

I only have a PS3 so all games on this format

    1. Portal 2 - Beautiful, frustrating and rewarding in equal measure. I didn't want it to end.
    2. Uncharted 3 - Hyped to the max. but didn't disappoint. Played out like a collection of perfectly choreographed cut scenes that just got better and better. The section on the ship is particularly breathtaking.
    3. Dues Ex - Slow burner that rewards the early perseverence. Looks and feels great.

Just missed the cut; Arkham City, Skyrim and Fifa 12.

New Vegas was great. Fairly buggy to start with but there's an incredible amount of stuff to do off the main story arc, new weapons to piss around with and the DLCs were superb, especially Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. It may have suffered slightly from it being overly ambitious with size. The main game wasn't quite as good as Fallout 3, but the DLCs were way better.

This year, Saints Row 3, Dirt 3, Gears 3 were also awesome games, but I think Assassin's Creed Brotherhood takes it for me.

Dark Souls by a distance, incredibly challenging and with the best online mode ever. Honourable mentions to Child of Eden the Rez sequel and Skyward Sword, finally a game where the motion controls add real immersion and quite possibly the best Zelda game ever.

    Can I submit a vote for F1 2011?

Santa brought me a copy, and it is fantastic. The visuals and realism are superb, the graphics are fantastic and it's probably the best racing simulation I've ever played, on any platform.

Santa also brought me a pukka Racing Wheel too, which makes things a little more controllable. I'm hooked already!

Portal 2 for me. It's the only game I've ever played where I was enthralled 100% of the time. Not only that but the acting and storyline was absolutely stunning.

Shame it's been totally overshadowed by mw3 and skyrim.

F1 2011 was awesome, but I really couldn't be bothered after one seaso, and Forza 4 suffered similarly for me. Which is why Dirt 3 was the dogs. The addition of the all singing, all dancing, sticker covered, Ken Block bumming, gymkhana extravaganza freshened the series up a treat. It reminded me of the old Tony Hawk games - a lot of variety, some silly stuff, some challenging and a lot of fun to play, and a lot of games seem to miss the fun part out these days.

Dirt 3 is a good one.

The F1 developers have a sense of humour though; after a slight incident of wheel-banging with Michael Schumacher that ended up with my Williams spinning into the gravel, I was informed I'd won a trophy - "Have you thought about trying DIRT3" - very humorous!

It's early doors as I only got it for Christmas but I'm really enjoying LA Noire thus far.

I always ask for a game at Christmas that takes a it of time to get through. Passes the time between Chrimbo and New Year.

Being from a period of American History I'm interested in makes me slightly biased anyhow.

LA Noire is incredibly repetitive. The story lines aren't bad but it's just the same thing all the way through.

    I'm enjoying F1 2011 even more.

Got a drive at Williams, and started the season shakily but managed a hard-fought 6th place in the Turkish Grand Prix!!

    Both made by Codemasters!

I played F1 2010 game too, which is probably why I got bored of 2011 quickly. Apart from DRS and KERS, the only big difference is the new track or two.

    Fallout is awful

half want to make a 'disappointing games' thread for it.

Skyrm was bit of a let down, the game would have been so good and immersive but it just doesn't work; since the last patch I'm lucky in I get 10 minutes in before it locks up.

Didn't realise Fallout NV was this year? Was a good game, but again bethesda know how to release broken games. in NV I had the flying robot as a companion, he just disappeared but it was still registering as a follower. Didn't bother me too much until I got to the point where you had to enter a tent unaccompanied to continue the main story, completely broke the game.

Just finished playing assassins creed revelations; good addition to the story but felt less finished than the previous titles.

    1. Portal 2 (PS3) - If you haven't played it yet, just do it. Great fun and brilliant dialogue courtesy of Stephen Merchant (and from a technical standpoint - great interlinking between the ps3 and PC/Mac OS. Will be the future of online gaming I suspect)

    2. Total War: Shogun 2 (PC) - love this type of game.

    3. Dark Souls (PS3) - Quirky series from Japan, demon souls was the prequel. Worth playing if you like ECO type of game.
