I don't think they were trying to keep hold of him. I got the impression they were trying to play us and Birmingham off against each other, which backfired.

Always liked Colin, thought he was a decent bloke and I'll always have the memory of that fantastic promotion day thanks to him.

Was out of his depth in the Championship though.

    Default Calderwood

Always came across as a decent guy, met him once at the Forest Open-day, and he was humble, open and welcoming.

And we will always have that last day against Yeovil („...AND...CHELTENHAM HAVE SCORED...!“) to remember him by.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

The only bloke to get us promotion this century..

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

Colin's a good bloke. He wasn't the right manager for the Championship, which is a shame as he did stop the rot and got us promoted.

Decent manager in League One and Two (promotions with ourselves and Northampton), not quite up to Championship standard which is a shame. Grateful for the job he did here and he always came across as a nice chap. I hope he does well.

Don't know, with a bit more backing I think he'd have done a job in the Championship. Billy came in and added bit of quality and steel but Calderwood found some decent players too and turned the boat around and had us playing some exciting football at times. From what I remember we were fairly unfortunate at times before Calderwood was sacked, a bit like Pearce was, we were losing by the odd goal rather than winning them.

Fair points there, particularly when it comes to his signings which were largely pretty good and played a big part in our play off finishes under Billy.

It's hard to say if he would have turned it around if he had been given more time, but we've had managers in this league that have done a much worse job than Calderwood did.

Overall he did a good job here, getting us promoted and laying good foundations that his successor built upon.

Calderwood was never a master tactition but he made up for that with his recruitment in the most part. He signed a lot of players in League One that spent several years with us in the Championship.

Nice guy but awful manager. Had a decent squad and a good budget in League One and laboured promotion. Some of the football we played under CC was dire and it wasn't even effective. Even managed to make a promotion season feel like a drag bar the last day miracle which was as much about other teams totally fucking up for a few weeks as much as anything else.

    Could spot a player though.

Was on a hiding to nothing a little bit in div 3. Other than running away with the league, nothing any manager did with a Forest team in that division was going to be good enough.

True mate. I guess we were spoilt as our (I think we are similar age)previous two promotions in 94 and 98 were brilliant. 94 started slowly but seemed exciting. I remember going away to Doncaster in calderwood’s promotion season and I’m sure it was March and the team were dreadful, booed off and I remember being thoroughly depressed by football. We went on a run after but never felt like a good season bar the last game which felt great.

Six wins and a draw from the last seven when all looked lost after that Doncaster defeat.

Doncaster would have been the low point when it looked like Forest had blown it. That was the run of 1 win in 7 to toss away the auto promotion spot.

    Any excuse:

"It is all over at the City Ground and those scenes tell you everything, Nottingham Forest have come with a great late run, they have won 6 of the last 7 games, they have lost 1 of the last 13 games They are promoted, fantastic for those long Suffering Forest Fans"

If Leeds hadn’t put one in with their hand the other month we would have two more points.

In league one we were 1-0 up away at Leeds and that cheating **** Mark Halsey (who also sent off Cohen there a couple of years later) gave them a penalty in the 85th minute. So same old at Elland Rd.
