    Default Safe Standing Bill

Don Foster MP for Bath introduced the Safe Standing Bill into Parliament yesterday aiming to get the law changed to allow clubs to build or maintain safe standing areas in their grounds.

Full transcript of the bill as it was presented to Parliament

The bill is being backed by the Football Supporters Federation - their page is here which includes links of how to contact your MP to tell them you support the bill and get them to support it too. The more constituents that contact each MP the more chance we have of getting support for it in parliament.

As Don Foster said it works in Germany, USA & Canada so why not here?

because of pissed up, ticketless scousers arriving late and trying to force their way in.

Well that just means it won't work in Liverpool. I'm sure the rest of the country is capable of standing at a football game without causing an international incident.

works fine in Liverpool in the Kop every other fecking week. While their allowed to stand unopposed we have to put up with the over zealous stewarding at the City Ground

Given the nature of the majority of stadia now in the UK there's really no point in campaigning for safe standing any longer.

surely it wouldn't be too difficult to be able to convert sections of the new(ish) stadium's and there are still quite alot of grounds that still need updating and if the legislation's in place then it can be included when they are

They'd be shallow terraces though.. and also, why would clubs pay to convert them? I'm not convinced they'd make additional cash from them...

When we stood at the City Ground our capacity was much more.
    49,946 in 1967.

I sent an email to my MP, great campaign. If the Main Stand was redone after this goes through, we'd up our capacity no end.

Yes, but this is about safe standing, not let too many peolpe in and everyone gets squashed standing.

how much would you pay to stand? 10£? I would

What I want is the option to pay a reasonable price, when I turn up at the ground, when I feel like it.
The flexibility has vanished really, it's seating only and god help you if you accidentally fart, the stewards simply foam at the mouth.
Don't sing, don't shout, actually if you really must sing make sure its from an approved list of songs that contain no derogatory comments about fatherless referee's or possible peado managers...

This is why footy has lost it's core supporters. It needs to retrieve it's head from its arse and look at the fact that really isn't that entertaining anymore. There's nothing more annoying than watching non committed footballers, with fully committed stewards.

Something wrong with the sport in my OP

I think there is more than a chance this could happen, especially now it is being spoken about by MPs. Join the group STAND UP SIT DOWN on facebook they have regular updates. I think lower trent could be made safe standing and maybe A block.

A redeveloped main stand suitable for stadning would be enough to give us potential attendances of 35,000+

30/09/2021: It's only 8 points to the play-offs. Doesn't matter if we're 20th having lost three times as many games as we've won so far. I fancy us now that Hughton's gone.

So we'd just need to find 50% more fans to turn up on a regular basis then ?

Does anyone really think this is a goer ? Surely the club would end up making less money.

The CHEAPEST adult ticket at Peterborough is £20 so standing isn't going to save enprmous amounts of money!

And that is more of the issue - the Taylor report, for all its positives, gave the clubs licence to print money by altering their grounds to all seater. I think its the clubs who are more likely to oppose, given they will need more stewarding to ensure safe capacities are adhered to (especially if the scousers are in town), and will have to charge less for standing areas.

Whilst in principle I like the idea, I just think football is too greedy to think of anything but the cash.
