I wonder what the club will have to tell us if Whittingham does go elsewhere, or comes here at a price way above that which we originally wanted to pay because we've played such a hard game with Cardiff and so dragged out the whole affair and eventually others interest pushed the price up?

They'll tell us that it was all part of the master plan aimed at getting us to regain and retain our premiership status

I'm not suggesting the morality of Cardiff City's financial situation is ok. I was responding to the post by DanR who suggested that there should be a rule saying that the loaning club should pay 50% of their wages. Which quite frankly is ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous to suggest that a company should be legally obliged to pay the wages of their employees? Especially in an industry where the financial rewards of success are so massive? I think it's downright sensible

WTF is going on! Cardiff, Hull and Portsmouth are up to their balls in debt. Whereas we've got SO much money haven't we marthur you tosser.
We got 1.5million + for James Perch, so where is that money? I know we're only 2 games in but I'm afraid fellow reds that times ahead are bleak. Unless we make a move in the next two weeks, the fans won't turn up and Davies will walk.

Yes, having a rule where a club HAS to pay at least 50% of a loan players wages is ridiculous. Not least because it would rule Forest out of ever getting a decent player on loan.

That would be the 5 year plan they told us about 9 years ago?

I dunno what's more surprising, Bellamy's going to Cardiff or Bellamy's mates with Lily Savage!

His friend, Derby County's Robbie Savage, told BBC Radio 5 live: "He's disappointed he's not in the City 25. He thinks he should be in, as I do and the majority of supporters in Britain would.

But not as ridiculous as Manchester City paying Craig Bellamy 90k a week to play for another club, another club who are so skint that they had a transfer embargo until recently. This is going down the route of Premier league clubs using our league as feeder clubs and B teams, rather than the Championship clubs having their own ambitions. Bellamy may get Cardiff promoted, but there is no way Man City would finance him playing for them in the Premier League, so where do Cardiff and Bellamy go to then?

Bellamy's played in the Premier League, so he's allowed to be Robbie Cabbage's mate.

Generally, when answering a question which begins with the word why; it's not acceptable just to re-state your original position. My question asked you for an explanation as to why bringing in such a rule would be ridiculous, so far you haven't done so.

You really need me to explain. Really? Ok, it would rule out the possibility of the majority of Premier League players being loaned to a Championship or lower club, because they wouldn't be able to afford the wages. This would have a detrimental effect on the young members of these squads who won't get a game, especially now they have the 25 squad rule. From a selfish point of view, Forest wouldn't be able to get any decent players on loan from the Premier League.

yes but Shorey was a totally out of favour, reserve pl left back on nothing like the wages bellamy would be on, and coming to a financially stable club, for a month, rather then a debt ridden animal that has somehow managed to get away with all their responsibility thus far. Bellamy is a top rate PL striker on 90k a week who can all but guarantee them automatic promotion.

Isn't that a good thing. Prem clubs would then be forced to be more careful about how much they pay their players then. It migh have an impact on the spiralling cost of wages being paid for mediocre players

Which is I agree a fair enough point - but surely a club should only be able to benefit from the assets which they are in a position to pay for?! I agree with the earlier poster that championship clubs will basically become feeder / reserve teams for the big 4/6 clubs. The point of a loan should be that a club gets the benefit of a player without having to shell out an up front fee for his services (in most cases) but should have to pay a portion of his wages since they will be using him as an employee for a predetermined period of time. Ideally introducing a set level for this wage portion could have the effect of making premiership clubs realise that they will not be able to put mediocre players on gargantuan salaries and then shove them out on loan when they are surplus to requirements or causing problems, since no lower level club will be able to afford them. Maybe this move could slow down the rift that gets bigger every season between the big and smaller clubs? I'm, probably looking through rose tinted glasses though

Whichever way you look at it, it's a massive coup for Cardiff.

Getting a player like Bellamy, who will be absolute quality at Championship level, is really going to make them one of the favourites for promotion now. If it's true he's on £90k per week, then Cardiff must be paying some of it.

If having Bellamy puts another thousand supporters on the gate every other week (at say £20 a ticket) that immediately gives them another £10k per week to "spend" on him.

It would probably now make it unlikely that Whittingham would leave though, seeing as they've brought Bellamy in; whilst one player doesn't guarantee promotion, he would probably be the best forward player in the division by some margin.

It doesn't say either if this is a season-long loan or just up until the next Transfer window? Even at 31, Bellamy will score goals for fun, and maybe at his age, he wants to move nearer his home (apparently his family all live in the Cardiff area?)

It does show the weakness of the FA and Football League, as they are (in effect) allowing a company who have seemingly almost been trading insolvently spend their way out of trouble!

Only problem for Cardiff is if they don't get promotion; and with this signing, they might suddenly become everyone's "Cup Final"!

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”
