Intresting interview after the game. Dave jones has said that over the next couple of days there will be players going and that they will need to sell to bring players in.

Key word here is "may" have to let some players go to bring some in.

Cardiff would be aware of the comments made by Mark Arthur yesterday and I think the fact that they did not comment today says everything.

For the first time Dave Jones admitted people will have to leave and I think by Whittinghams body language today said alot.

I dont want to count my chickens but I am fairly sure this particular deal is done.

Whether we get either, who knows!
Really? We tried to get him in the summer window when he was out of contract but he chose Coventry. Then when January came around we ended up bidding £1.5m to try and get him, a monstrous amount for a L1 side. I think it's fair to say we were very keen to sign him.

I hope you are right but I think this one will drag on and on and might not end as we would like it to. Jones seems a bit frustrated but I am not sure Whittingham is one of the potentially outgoing players that he was referring to.

    Time will tell I guess.

Didn't see the interview. What in particular suggested that Whittingham wouldn't be the outgoing player. Something he said?

Well, from what I can gather there is 3 potential outgoing players,

    Whitts
    Ross
    Chopra

These are the 3. It seems Ipswich have turned there attention elsewhere instead of chopra, no on is in for Ross so the obvious deal on the table at the minute is forest.

I think they will sell at least 2 of those 3 if not all. Have to re-srtucture and re-finance the side. Not to mention all 3 have made it obvious they want to go and I don't think Dave Jones is the type of guy to work with that. It would be financial suicide if they was to let players out of contract leave at the end of the season for free or in Jan for alot less.

The fact they got no money for ledley leaves them with no choice.

    It did not mention names.

But I would have thought after yesterdays comments by forest they would have been eager to state a point if they had grounds to.

He was quite matter of fact about players moving on and I doubt he would have been like that if a key player like Whitts was one of them.

It's all about interpretation, I could be and hope to be wrong.

Thanks. From what you say, however, I get the feeling Dave Jones has accepted that some of his best players will be moved on, and maybe he's talking in a 'matter of fact way', knowing that if one or two players move on, it may open up a small amount of funds to help bring in replacements (e.g. Koumas).

Although, having said that, if that were true, you would have expected him to be touting for a move away from Cardiff City earlier in preseason

Cardiff have accused Championship rivals Nottingham Forest of attempting to unsettle midfielder Peter Whittingham.

Forest have had two bids for Whittingham turned down but chief executive Mark Arthur has claimed the 25-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract, wants to move to the City Ground.

But his comments have provoked an angry response from the Bluebirds, who insist Whittingham is not for sale and that they are in talks over a new deal.

City chief executive Gethin Jenkins said: "I would like to thank Mr Arthur for his interest in our football club, though would suggest that he direct his attention towards internal Nottingham Forest issues and problems than any blatant public attempts to unsettle members of our playing squad.

"We have already stated that we are intent on holding on to our best players in order to remain competitive in the Championship. Positive talks continue with Peter, as they do with other members of our squad, while we concentrate on starting the 2010/11 Championship season."

Whittingham scored 25 goals last season for Cardiff, who have estimated debts of £15-30million.

Surely marthur of all people would have known this could have jeapordised the transfer and anger Cardiff? Else why would he say it?

He's either been very clever here, or he's been a complete fool but I for one trust him on this move he's made.

What I don't understand is why we're bidding silly offers below the asking price. This will only indicate that we don't rate him as much and disinterest the player in signing. We either up the bid to what Cardiff request, or the window will close leaving us no plan b.

It could be seen as a clever move, but this is Mark Arthur here...! I'd hope the club wouldn't send him out to say all this without there being some progress with the transfers. But at Forest, nothing surprises me.

It is either very clever, very stupid or desperate. I guess we will see how things unfold but I am sick of the constant speculation now.

More than enything I just want forest to sign a decent left winger and a centre forward with some physical presence asap because Saturday demonstrated that we are most defficient in those areas.

Didn't we only not sign Leon Best because Coventry kept rejecting the bids. He handed in a request and we went as far as £1.5m - which is ridiculous anyway - and they kept saying no so we just gave up.

Mark Arthur may be a twat in many people's eyes, but surely he wouldn't risk his professional reputation by saying what he did yesterday if it wasn't true.

I think it's clear from todays events that a Whittingham deal is nowhere near. If Cardiff wanted/needed to sell him then he would not have played today.

Add that to the chairmans comments and those ITK seem to have jumped the gun a little.

I don't think he is a twat at all, but I do think this was a calculated risk that must have been sanctioned by ND.

The worrying thing is, what other "stella" left winger will BD be satisfied with if we give up on Whitts?

This is what worries me too. If our primary targets are not brought in we will be left relying on loans and they are notoriously hit and miss. I am very sceptical about the whole thing personally and we might have a lot of very disappointed people on these forums in the next couple of weeks. We are playing hard ball and it is not for the faint hearted - its **** or bust basically!

If anything the last 24 hours have made me less confident about Whittingham joining. Has anyone considered that Mark Arthur's comments are desperation on our part?

I would love to think we have got our man, but I'm not holding my breath.

A little panicking going on, but on the flip side there is nothing to say that:
    a) ND knew about it and encouraged MA to do it.
    b) Darren and Peter were both told about what was going to be said and agreed - as they didn't want to hand in transfer request.

There are a million reasons why this out of character statement was released, even down to the crazy idea that Cardiff and Swansea both have agreed to the transfers on the condition that we make a statement like this so they can pretend they did all they could to keep their players but we turned them! By us doing this it will make the Welsh more angry at NFFC than at their respective boards for selling their best players... the truth is we will never know what is happening until it's on the OS, or someone gets a job high up at Forest and is willing to leak info!

This could indeed be the case. But if it were desperation from Mark Arthur, then surely that was the wrong thing to say? He could have gone the other way and professed his admiration for the player and how much he wanted him to sign for Forest, rather than saying "he wants to come here".

Of course, have Cardiff actually said "Whittingham is not for sale at any price"?

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”
