Yes that’s right mate, it’s gone now. I think they are changing the place, lots of new staff, areas sectioned off, stock moved on, it’s not a patch on what it was years ago but still worth a visit.

I got my first set of decent wood chisels from there 25 years ago, Footprint made from Sheffield steel, cost me about £18 and they still have years left in them. They’ll see me out.

Whatever we were actually going for we always had to have a good look round at all the random stuff.
Not surprised it's not quite the same as it used to be. Still like nowhere else though no doubt?

Just been telling the missus about it. She's never been to either branch so I think we'll have a drive out soon.

Nottingham is probably the better one for a first time visit, it’s a bit themed though, last time I went there they were playing wartime music and stuff. Not everyone’s cup of tea but i like the nostalgia due to family history.
Obviously plenty of places nearby if you want to eat out etc, there’s not much in Waingroves on the other hand. It’s a quick dash down the A38 for me.

Yes the Ripley one was only 10 minutes up the road when I lived in Ofton. Cattle Market is closer now obviously. It's even longer since I've been to that one.
As I remember it was even more ramshackle than the Ripley branch.
Lots of rusty old things under tarps in the yard.

Does anyone like staying out late in bars anymore?

Was approached and surrounded by 3 young guys last night walking home by myself. Looked like the rough druggy types. They asked me for money and kept following me. Suddenly another one joined and said their mum was dying in hospital. Then I'm getting called a pussy and all sorts from another guy in their group who is up at a window.

As they were following me shouting abuse and threats I turned around suddenly to confront them in a fight or flight moment and gave them my Roy Keane stare and angry Irish accent and they went 'Oh fuck' and ran off.

Just getting too old for all that nonsense. I like day time drinking watching a football game in a bar but I think for evening drinking I prefer being indoors....

Apart from when I go to rockabilly gigs, I never go out at night. For the last 10yrs or so, I prefer to go to pubs in the day time. Less hassle and fewer idiots about.

Not at all. I much prefer getting trashed when I don't need to worry about getting home.

Pubs are mainly for eating in.

We'll go out locally which means it's very unlikely we'll get any bother. My son likes a drink and a game of pool and is the instigator otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Not specifically covid, but it pisses me off how the media seem intent on gaslighting us.

We had all of it this time last year with covid and all the murmuring about restrictions etc, we then had the murmuring of extending restrictions as we came out of them, and now we have none and there's a whiff of an uptick in cases they're now talking about Plan B (which isn't going to work anyway I don't think) and then no doubt more if that doesn't work and back into lockdown again.

Though plenty of the cabinet have denied it, crucially including Javid, Boris and Rishi, as well as Kwarteng, you can see them caving at some point and it's partially because of the media putting negative slants on everything all the time.

And we saw that a while back with the selective quoting and overdramatising storylines about petrol and other mooted shortages all to make people panic.

    It's absolutely disgraceful.

Had a great evening last night. Went to trent lock for a go on the driving range then walked around Sawley for more than a few jars. No issues although the size of most of us tends to help with that.

It's normally when I'm on my home walking from a bar after 9pm where I tend to get shit from groups.

I'm not massive but I'm not small either. I'm 5'10 and 81kg. I'm definitely not a hard nut but I have learnt techniques over the years when people attack me and usually it's confronting them, getting up in their face and calling their bluff that gets me out of trouble.

It's a dangerous game but if I go in my shell, they will take me out for fun and mug me. Survival is just making them think you are a nutter or you're confident in fighting against many of them.

Not so long ago I was punched on the blindside by a guy in a group of 6 who surrounded me and it hurt like fuck and I was seriously shitting myself inside. But I said to myself, let's make him feel like I'm still in control so I smirked at him and said 'Is that all you've got?' and they all backed off. He must have been the ringleader.

Too many of these nonsense moments for my liking and I've had enough. Just want an easy life daytime drinking to be honest.

    Leave it aaahhhtttt.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

„Don't forget you're alive. 'Cause sometimes when you walk around the city and you're in a bad mood, you can think, hey, wait a minute, we're alive! We don't know what the next second will bring and what a fantastic thing this is. This can get easily forgotten in the routine of life, and that's something I'm trying to bring to my attention at all times. Don't forget you're alive. We're not dead, you know. This is the greatest thing.”

My family keep telling me the same. Don't get the bus, don't walk home.

Just get that uber home. It might cost you a tenner more, but at least you're safe.

You get to an age you can’t be arsed with it anymore mate.

I don’t stay out late only on rare occasions. Let them get on with it with their own age group.

    Take care.

They are more than likely working alongside The Behavioural Insights Team or ‘Nudge Unit’, same as the government.
If we say that, let’s see what happens…

It’s rare I bother with MSM now, just got fed up years ago of their agenda driven bias depending on which side of the fence they sit on. I don’t want a right or left view of what is going on, I want an impartial view.

So much for 6 weeks delivery, talked to the dealer this morning and now expected end of January. Still at least glad we ordered when we did as he said orders they're taking now will not be delivered until next August.

Just had my conditional offer from West Yorkshire police after I got caught speed in Bradford in July, £100 fine & 3 points but no offer of a speed awareness course

Bunch of useless wankers couldn't catch the Yorkshire Ripper but they're all over me like a tramp on chips
