Bizarrely, I am naturally left-footed somehow, despite being right-handed?
Same. Right handed / left footed. I shoot and cross with my left but I'm more comfortable passing (side-foot) with my right for some reason. I'm really good at football, I was in my school team, one of the best

I used to know a guy that was left footed and right handed (as in wrote with his right hand) yet threw, caught and bowled with his left hand but batted and played tennis right-handed. I was going to say it was a bit odd, but when you think about it, the fact that 90% of our species have a strong preference for using their right sided limbs, is quite weird. I'm guessing there must be an evolutionary or genetic reason for this.

EDIT: Just read an article on this. So basically it might just be a by-product of linguistic development.

"Some have argued that it all comes down to language. Just as most people are right-handed – a trait, remember, controlled by the left side of the brain – so do most people do the bulk of their linguistic processing in their brain’s left hemisphere. Indeed, this left-brained specialisation for language is even more common than right-handedness – which might suggest that as the left hemisphere evolved for language, the preference for the right hand may have intensified simply as a side effect. This is called the Homo loquens hypothesis: lateralisation in general was driven by the evolution of an upright, bipedal stance, while the rightward preference was driven, some time later, by the evolution of language.

Right-handedness, then, may simply be an accidental by-product of the way most of our brains are wired up. But proving the hypothesis is difficult, or even impossible, since it would ideally involve running neurological tests on our long-dead ancestors. The truth is we'll probably never quite know what the sequence of events was that led our species to lean so overwhelmingly on the right sides of our bodies and the left sides of our brains.

As for the left-handers out there? Take heart! According to a 1977 paper in the journal Psychological Bulletin, "there is remarkably little evidence for any association of left-handedness with deficit, as has often been suggested". In fact, some research shows that left-handed folks might even have an easier time recovering from brain damage. And their left hand seems to have the advantage of surprise in a fight, which means they can be better at combat sports. All of which suggests there are advantages to breaking from the norm."

One thing I was always jealous of when I played was left footers. To the eye test and through experience they always seem to hit the ball sweeter. Maybe my perception was off but I'd love to know I'd there's something in the mechanics of that.

It might just be the ones I've met, and I'm sure it's very different compared the standard that you played, but I've always found left-footers' right foots to be abysmal. Like they can't use them at all (like Arjen Robben!). But maybe that's because they tend to get shifted out to left back and left wing, and because it's such a rarity to be able to sue their left foot they just don't need to use the right as much. And maybe that makes their dominant foot a little stronger, and they can strike the ball that little bit sweeter. I just know when I came up against one I'd struggle to get past them, and I wasn't much of a tackler anyway, but they'd stroll by me and I couldn't get near them - like my body couldn't position itself correctly.

Actually that's interesting because after my post I've just had that exact conversation with a mate of mine who I'm with and I said something very similar which was that of all those left footers (Andy Reid excluded) I was far better with my left than they were with their weaker right, in fact I said the same word as you "abysmal". Again, maybe something in the mechanics of this?

I can remember a similar complaint being made about Juan Veron, that his right foot was absolutely useless.

Yes, I found that because I was usually the only left footed person playing i'd be covering a lot of the left side myself, though I had the option of playing on either side and either cutting in or going outside, I always felt I was more useful in the centre... Mostly even now left siders end up playing LB or LW because there are plenty of right footed left backs (even back in the day I think Irwin was right footed yet played LB for Man U for years) and that's before this whole inverted winger nonsense. (Although it is good with CHO doing that...)

can we get Memphis Depay instead of this guy ? At 30, still good for 2-3 seasons. Gotten better and more matured since his early days at united.

Not a bad shout, that. The guy is 5 goals away from being the top scorer of all time for Netherlands.

His desire to play football has only got better as time goes along. Has a great free-kick on him. Can't blame him for the toxic Man United experience.

You could have had him for free in the summer... if you were prepared to pay him 200 grand a week!

does Corinthians have that much financial power to be paying him that much though ?
As incident says apparently 90% of his salary is covered by a gambling company. There was some talk they might have to terminate it as there was a government cull on betting companies, but the one that pays Depay made the cut!

Corinthians generate similar money to what we do as a PL club.

The difference is they can't afford to write off losses every year. On the whole, the Brazilian league is a profitable league - probably one of the reasons EM is looking at buying a Brazilian club. The La Liga figures are probably wrong too as they include Barcelona's dodgy accounting which has inflated the profits.

This part fits the bill :

It’s clear #NFFC need a new striker, and the Brazilian is a menace. Works incredibly hard, can hold the ball up well, turn and work the channels

It did look like he’d work better in a two, but I could see him in a similar role to Jota Silva later in games, in addition of course to his availability as a #9 CF as cover. Wood ofterm dropsdeep to link up with our midfield and wide players.

Based on squad size, a couple of high quality u21s would be very useful, forward role being one of them.

That worked great for our keeper position until injury forced the Hennessey move, which potentially eats up an extra place in the 25 man squad.

My little brother bats and plays golf left handed, everything else right handed. Swear he just batted left handed to wind everyone up - that said he wasn’t bad as he scored 150 on trent bridge and one season 20 odd years ago scored 100s home and away against Devon Malcom!
The golf one has always intrigued me.

Im very very right sided myself. After spending years trying to smash a golf ball 350 yards every time and regularly slicing it I decided to take lessons. I was playing off about 18 at the time.

The pro explained to me and god knows how i had never thought about it that your swing is a pulling action, not a pushing action. It therefore got me thinking that with a dominant and more powerful right arm, why I wasnt playing with left handed clubs.

Phil Mickleson is right handed for example. Theres perhaps an argumrnet to be had that left dominant people should use right handed clubs and vice versa.

I guess it comes down to wether you have the abilty to control the club with your weaker arm....Its a very complicated and a reason Ive not swung a club for 5 years 😂
