Your thoughts on the season so far??

Around a third of the way through the season, how do you think its goin??

I think we're doing well, looking good for a play off place..
Need to add to the team come January, which could obviously go either way.

I think results towards the early end of the season could of gone more our favor had we been a bit further into the season, could of got a draw at Burnley and a win against the likes of Leeds and Norwich, we have also proven ourselves in some quite tough games, Doncaster, Swansea, Watford etc..

Camp is looking in form lately, he is proving to be the same sort of keeper he was last season with some of the close range blocks he is doing (there are a good couple of examples in the Coventry highlights).. My only worry is that we dont have a firm back up for Camp!

Our defence is looking ok-ish, Wes needs to sharpen up a bit, Chambers has come clean lately and is playing pretty well! Wilson is obviously injured, but we have a bit of competition for defenders now which is rare, and Bertrand is doing a grand job at settling into life at the City Ground, I just hope we can keep him for a bit longer!

Midfield is looking good in my opinion, Cohen and Raddy getting on the scoresheet Tuesday will help them a little bit, in the Coventry game we saw some spells of magic from Raddy and his goal will hopefully give him a boost of confidence because the long range shot is what he is good at.. Everybody knows about McGugan, so I dont need to go into much detail about him..
I just wish Billy would play McGugan and Raddy together in the centre more, because as long as those 2 are in the team, there will always be a threat on goal from outside the box!

Strikers are worrying me a bit, Blackstock only seems to score from headers and penalties! Earnshaw is injury prone at the minute and so we cant rely on him too heavily..

I think come January, Billy needs to -
> Justify the goalkeeping situation
> Get Bertrand on another 6 month loan
> Get a left winger in
> Possibly get a new striker
> Get some more of the current players on new contracts (Wilson etc..)
> Stop his winging

Apart from that, all is well I think!!

Your views...?

Some stats...

OptaJoe

42% - Nottingham Forest have scored a higher percentage of goals from long range than any other team in the Championship. Speculative.

47% - Nottingham Forest have conceded the highest percentage of goals from headers in the Championship. Weakness.

mcgugan has been our season so far.

we need to practice heading.

It feels worse than it actually is... were doing alright, and I think we will reach the play-offs comfortably.
Could do with a couple of new players though...

I also think a lot of the teams above us will start dropping points soon..

QPR, Derby, Leeds, Norwich, Coventry...

League wise, its not too bad- but performance wise we havent got going.

We havent looked bad, but we havent looked very good either. We've just been sort of alright and almost ambled through games.

Hopefully it will click, and all come together over the christmas period and set us up for a strong finish :)

We badly need a central defender - Morgan is looking very vulnerable (I think he's beginning to believe the "You'll never beat Wes Morgan" chants), Chambers is not big enough and Wilson loses concentration far too regularly for my comfort.

We are averaging 1.4 points per game, which would land us on 66 come the season end if we carry on this sort of form..

The points needed to get into playoffs for the past few seasons -
09/10 - 70
08/09 - 74
07/08 - 70
06/07 - 75..

I think with a few more signings we can push it!

More interesting though, the points needed for automatic -

09/10 - 91
08/09 - 83
07/08 - 79
06/07 - 86..

Do-able!?!?

...sorry for getting all statictical, its Friday afternoon and im excited about tomorrows game! :)

Sadly I am quite uninspired by the season so far... Maybe it was all the bullshit flying around in the summer, maybe it is the indifferent form or it could be down to the fact the strikers have forgotten how to score. I am pretty busy with other stuff too which also doesn't help, but I just feel the first 15 weeks of the season can be pretty dull and mundane. I expect the excitement to return in January and this club to finally have a successful Jan transfer window after learning they wont have a new WC stadium... ;)

It's not got going yet, but we're in touch so the potential is there. We need to get the whole team scoring more goals, not just worry about our strikers, and cut out some of the silly mistakes. We also need to avoid getting carried away about unbeaten runs - an unbeaten run of 2 drawn games = 2 points, 1 win + 1 loss = 3 points!

I'd rather be where we are than where Middlesbrough and Sheffield United are.

All going very well I feel. Away form still dissappointing but to to be honest our home form has been exceptional.

What do people expect ? Sometimes I think peeps think we should be a Man Utd or something. I'm happy with the current position. If Mr Doughty acts on Billy's words and removes David Pleat then all will be going swimmingly well, cos for those of you who haven't worked it out yet, that is what Billy is asking for with all his current quite correct outpourings. You dont need to be a rocket scientist to work that out :>) One word to sum it up so far...splendid....enjoying iy so much more these days....the effort is undeniable and that's what we ask for the most isn't it ?

I expect us to have our own TV station called 'NFTV'
I expect us to have flags and banners around the ground with Brian Clough's face on.
I expect us to still be a fighting force in european football.
I expect us to have nut job fans who don't go to England games because our football club is bigger.
I expect us to have supporters groups coming to every home from places like Cornwall and Rhyl.

and so on....

When our strikers start to find the net it will fire us up the league and comfortably into the play offs!

We've done OK so far...

Bright points; we've only lost three league games, and Lewis McGugan is showing the form we all hoped he would be capable of.

Not-so-bright points; our strikers seem to have forgotten where the goal is (and Earnie's season has been injury-disrupted).

We do look good in patches, and have shown some glimpses of what we can do (first 20 minutes v Leeds for example) but we need more consistency, and yes, we probably need another couple of players.

Still, as above, I'd rather be where we are in the league than where we were a couple of seasons ago at this point!

the wierd thing is this season is win today and we are on the same points as we where last season, yet last season we had just won 5 games on the bounce and where unbeaten away and playing some lovely stuff.

this season 1-1 seems to be a regular score line our away form is shocking and home performances are scrappy at best.

after a good december last season our away form wenhe mix come mayt to shit but home form continued to impress and we still managed a 3rd place finnish.

what fills me with confidence is if we start get get the performances going and sort the away from out there is no reason why we cant beat last years points finnish, not sure if that will see us in a 3rd or 2nd place finnish but im sure we will be in the mix come may

Honestly?

Disappointed with the lack of desire to push on after last season. Disappointed with the performances on the pitch. Disappointed with comments from both board and manager on various issues. I feel we're constantly one step away from a full scale fall out of all parties both on and off the pitch.

Without McGugan's goals we'd be 2nd bottom in the league. Wes and Kelv/Chambo look nothing like the rocks they were last season. Camp is flapping at everything, no idea why the OP said he was happy with his performances. Dex has gone off the boil, so has Cohen. Ando is still sapped of confidence, McKenna isn't getting any younger...

But, relieved however that despite all this we're racking enough points such that if disaster happens we've got a bit of buffer between us and those below us. Who knows, we could turn it around but I'm yet to be convinced.

Big game today against QPR - I feel it'll set us up for the rest of the season. Win and maybe some confidence will return and we can hold Cardiff and Leicester. Lose and we'll probably do the same against Cardiff and Leicester and suddenly everything will be bleak.

lets just thank fvck that we are in this league for a minute, that we are currently 11 in this league and that are future looks rosier than it might look if we were in league 1.

And wonder why this forum is still one hour infront of the real world when it comes to the times of the posts/threads etc!!!!!!!!

Camp kept us in the game today, with some good saves..

As he did against Coventry on Tuesday and a number of other games iv been to, Camp and McGugan have kept us from being at the bottom of the table.
