WORLD CUP PLANS BEING SCRAPPED???

PSR

Geoff Thomas
I don't know whether I am 100% right here but I'm sure I have just heard on East Midlands Today that Forest are to announce later today that they are to scrap their plans to bid for the World Cup venue.

If this is the case then I would assume plans for a new stadium will also be put on the back burner.

I'll try and find a link or more info later.

Doubt it, they like having the hold over us.

They don't though... It's a bit catch 22. Doughty owns the land around the CG therefore it's worthless to the council for developing on and the council wont sell because they are a bit pissed off with the past actions of the club.

I spoke in private to a couple of fellow members on this forum, and I thought the whole WC bid was a smokescreen to finally grab the land that Doughty really wants. If he does get it, then I really see us actually re-generating the City Ground and the land around it... :)

Enlighten me, because I don't have a clue. I am just happy if what you say in this thread is true

Let's be realistic and look at the whole picture.

Did we really expect to win a bid with the situation we are in - I think not.

Derby & Leicester are on our doorsteps sitting in brand new stadiums - the FA & FIFA go along and can see what they are going to get.

Forest however invite the FA & FIFA over (wine them & dine them) and show them a few plans. They then take them out into the countryside and show them a piece of land that doesn't even belong to them - doesn't look as though we can buy it - doesn't look like the council will give us permission to build on it because it's in 'Green Belt' area.

And is if by magic, minto step in at the 11th hour backed by Sven the Nottingham World Cup Ambassador with the promise of a new stadium. It'll happen I'm telling you.

The bid is not being scrapped, however our very own Dibley Parish Council (aka Notts CC) are this afternoon withdrawing from the bid team and will therefore no longer back any bid for the area. Did they ever want to be involved or was this a total charade?. It will seriously undermind the 'bid' in the eyes of FIFA etc. and could well prove to be the nail in the coffin!

Its as good as over now the County Council have pulled out, one of the requirements of the FA is that everybody is united in the bid this clearly isn't the case now. Anyone who thinks this could still happen now after the biggest authority in the area has withdrawn their support is kidding themselves. They might not be required to get the thing built but their goodwill will be crucial to the likes of the FA when selecting host cities. Its over for Nottingham

Full Story:http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/homenews/County-council-pulls-2018-World-Cup-bid/article-1349933-detail/article.html

THE county council has pulled out of the bid to bring the World Cup to Nottingham in 2018.

Tory leader Kay Cutts says the authority "cannot remain part of the bid" if a site at Gamston is the only option for a proposed stadium.

She claims the city council and Nottingham Forest did not consult the county council before announcing the proposals last Monday.

Officials at County Hall insist a redeveloped City Ground should be explored as an option – even though bid organisers say the stadium is not suitable.

Coun Cutts told the Evening Post the withdrawal of support was due to the "refusal to look at any other options but the Green Belt Gamston site".

She said: "It has been a difficult decision and we have considered all options.

"I still hold hope that the city council and Forest will change their minds, the door will always be open for future discussions.

"I still firmly believe that if we can work together, we can make Notts' World Cup ambition come to fruition."

Coun Cutts claims the bid team ignored the views of residents and Forest fans in rejecting a redevelopment of the City Ground and added: "When I heard this announcement last Monday, I made immediate efforts to try and get the bid back on track.

"I was very glad that all partners accepted our invitation to meet last Friday and found the discussions amicable.

"I had hoped the city council and Forest would agree to progress the bid on the existing City Ground.
"Since that meeting I have been met by complete resistance to any ambition to make the City Ground work."

The proposed Gamston stadium would seat 45,000 people and be the new home of Nottingham Forest. It would also be part of a major housing development.

Bid organisers say the county council is represented on Nottingham's 2018 World Cup team and the bid was sent to the FA more than a week before the Gamston plans were announced.

They ruled out Holme Pierrepont because of concerns over flooding and the City Ground because of a feasibility study by Forest.

Coun Cutts said the Gamston proposal lacks transport links and would harm business near the City Ground and Trent Bridge.

She said: "It was a manifesto pledge of ours to protect the Green Belt. It was written down in our manifesto and I see no reason to say we won't protect it."

Chief executive Mick Burrows said: "We are not walking away from the bid simply to walk away. We are walking away because the bid is fixed on Gamston at this particular time."

The final bid to host World Cup games must be submitted in November.

I know this Cutts woman is coming under fire, and I'm no Torry, but I'm pleased about the way she's handled this. It looks like we're safe from The Capital One Soulless Arena, and redevelopment of the Main Stand is back on the cards. Also, green belt doesn't need quote marks around it, we live in one of the most overcrowded countries in Europe, land that hasn't been concreted is precious.

Make no mistake this Politicking is only making it easier for Fester and Direby as their 'bid' committees are 100% 'on board'. A 'result' for them an own goal for us.

Not really, I can nip down the A52 to watch WC games, meanwhile we keep our ground and our heritage. We compete with Leicester and Derby in football terms, I don't really give a f*** about competing with them in any other sense, least of all some bull shit business "redevelopment" sense, i.e. building soulless "Malls" and yuppie flats all over my town.

Fair comment, however I won't be visiting the crisp bowl or prideless park, well not until the reds play them
