World Cup/New Ground

In the NEP last night, there is an article from a John Rhodes, a development director, discussing the possible site of a new ground should we get the world cup, he also discusses developing the City ground,

"The other proposal to build on the Nottingham Forest site would result in the football club being without a stadium for at least two years"

I've not seen that mentioned anywhere else!

Interesting...although I don't fancy the idea of a ground-share with Counteh, not least because they'd probably change their minds, as soon as demolition started on the old CG, and kick-us out.

Presumably two years, being a long-period of time, would be a far more ambitious project that simply re-builidng the main stand.

I wouldnt mind a bit of time at Trent Bridge. It's been done before !

So there's the option of building the Donutdrome on top of the City Ground?

That'd be like an Indian burial ground scenario!

I'd be more favorable to a donutdome on top of the city ground that an actual move....trent bridge or lego lane?

We own the stadium but not the land the stadium lies on or something stupid like that...its basically up to the council.

Wouldn't they really only need to develop the main stand? We managed to work round the Trent End being closed for a year.

Even with an upgrade to the Main Stand to a similar state as the Clough Stand that would only take us to about 43,000 so I imagine they would look to upgrade the Bridgeford End and probably refurbish the Clough and possibly even the Trent to make it viable for a world cup venue at 50,000. They would have to refit the executive boxes and improve segregation to make it suitable for holding Home/Away and Neutral fans which i'm guessing would mean moving some of the gates etc....Also the floodlights would probably need replacing etc or even moving if they wanted to attach to the New Main Stand to the Trent End or to the Bridgeford End....

We all know we'd much rather stay at the City Ground but it would be cheaper to move.

Was just about to post that. They were our tennants before, they've got nice big new stands and County have proved they're the worst landlords in football. Plus Arthur has got mates over there and anyway it's a shorter walk :D

World cup venues only need to hold 40,000 though dont they? A new Main Stand and a Bridgeford stand of the same height all the way round would surely push us up to the required standard

More like 35,000/36,000.

To get the CG up to World Cup standard, they'd need serious work doing on all 4 stands. So, temporary relocation would be almost certain.

Doesn't the Main Stand at the moment hold around 5,000? I assume that the Clough in it's present state holds around 15,000 so I was guessing that a new stand would hold a bit more than that possibly 17,000 - 20,000.

But yes work would need doing everywhere. :(

Main stand holds around 5,000, BC stand around 11,000. I think.

Main Stand- 5708
Bridgford 7710
Trent End 7500
BC 10000

I do remeber being talk that the reasoning being not making the Bridgford End a fully two tiered stand was due to the terrace housing behind that end and blocking out of light etc etc etc and that the corners where never filled in eg trent end to bc due to air circulation affecting the condition of the pitch .

How the hell does the Bridgeford hold more than the Trent?

It's got a corner on one side and nearly a corner on the other. The Trent End is quite square I suppose.

There's nothing "only" about 43,000 for Forest....
