Because at this stage a pay-as-you-play deal with Ball until Xmas wouldn't go amiss for starters. Sol Campbell for a season anyone?

There's quality up front in that team as well at our level. I know wages, health, form and everything come into it but you can broker no-lose deals with these sorts form time to time. If som of those were to come here and be their best, I'd be glad to see them on high performance related wages.

I'm not sure I would describe us as having a 'defensive crisis' right now only I do have niggling concerns that one of the main constituting errors of judgement last season should remain to be the area we have failed to strengthen so far this season, given that we had Lynch and Gunter all being on loan.

However, the difference is, this time, that our defence is a well recognised weakness and I'm confident it's one that will be addressed as soon as possible once the right candidates become available and at the right price.

We just have to ensure that the ball remains in our opponents half up until Christmas. ;D

Ball full time would be nice with Sol and Lauren on pay as u play... I bet Sol would take it to keep fit and prove his worth etc...

What crisis?

We have bought two full backs - addressing our biggest weakness from the start of last season - one of whom cost almost £2M from one of the big Premiership clubs.

While our CBs aren't the best in the league, they're far from the worst. And with our top target now elsewhere, I am confident that if we don't get a permanent signing Billy will target a top loan signing at CB.
