We will strengthen as necessary. Whether that will be in the window or afterwards, who knows. It didn't so us any harm last season waiting for the quality players to arrive. Have some faith in the club!

The loan market served us well last season, no reason why it can't again.

Theres a key difference here though. Last season we were scrapping against relegation, and the teams around us were doing the same. So no one was accumalting points to fly away.
This season, we are currently in a position where we are chasing automatic promotion. The main difference is, the teams around us are all picking up points.
Last year after the window shut we went on an awful run, which included 2 embarrassing defeats to derby didnt it?

If the same happens this season, it will have a much bigger effect on our season, but for very different reasons.

The club has clearly planned to try and get players in, and its taken them all this time to get no one in. They are going to have to start the whole process again, and the time it will take could potentially see us slide down the table and out of the play offs (potentially)

ok, we dont sign anyone 2 day, shorey goes to fulham and we dont get any loanees.

What will people think of the panel then?

2 seasons ago we were in league 1. now we are 2nd in the championship. the club is financially sound.

It's fairly obvious really.

What we have to remember is the panel was put in place to stop manangers spending money hand over fist on a load of rubbish ala Pratt.

It cam work as long as money is made available the only difference now is that the manager puts his recommendations to the panel and they loo and asses the player before making a bid.

Which up to now hasn't worked in a January Transfer Window as the process is protracted & player values are over inflated.

Or have the managers in charge not put a good enough case forward for buying a player?

All that is irrelevant. The same problems in bringing in players still exist either way, from season to season. Clubs want to hang on to their better players, better players will choose the club that's highest up the league ladder. That has already worked against us with Moses and apparantly Shorey too now.

The club has shown it won't be held to ransom any more and end up paying over the odds for people. However, after the window, it is a lot clearer who is available, and loans are easier as clubs might want to keep a player, or get him a run of games so his value rises.

We're not going to sign absolutely anybody just because we're in a promotion battle. They've got to be somebody who can improve the squad, and there's not many players who can do that are freely available, which is what it looks like most people struggle to understand.

The 'panel' is just another in a long line of easy scapegoats for Forest fans to throw mindless insults at.

Do you think Billy has just handed his wish list over today? And are over inflated values the panels fault too? :D

Could the real problem then be that Billy isn't picking realistic targets?

Not really we have Perch, Lynch, Wilson, Cohen, Bennet and Gunter who can all play at LB why do we need to sign another one before selling some of them off?

I wasn't having a go at the panel. I think it is there for a purpose and serves the club well. The problem is that the Transfer Window means if you need to fill a certain position - you sometimes need plan B, C, D E & sometimes F to be working concurrently because of the limited timeframe. You also rarely get a bargain as clubs generally ask too much - compared to the initial valuation.

Because none of them are actual left backs. With the exception of bennett, but hes very injured.

The others can all physically fill the gap- but not do a particuarly decent job in that position.

But we have used 4 of them this season at LB, 2 havent even played yet this season(Correct me if I am wrong but Lynch hasnt played has he?)

Surely if I had 6 of something to do 1 job I wouldn't want another to do exactlly the same job unless got rid of others?

This is the reason why the comittee is there to stop us overloading with player that are not required.

Not a chance we'll sign anyone, our aquisition panel can't conclude deals over the whole month nevermind the final couple of hours

That doesnt make any sense. You dont have 6 of something to one job. You have 1, and hes injured- and will be for a long time.
The others are being used as theres no alternative.
Its like your saying because colin used holt as a winger, it means we didnt need a winger- just because someones played there.
Or we dont need a centre back because adebola's played there- so we have someone to do the same job :D

We've used them at lb this season because there was no other option- thats all.

If you look at the results prior to shoreys arrival they werent great, bar newcastle- we drew loads.

Your argument falls down completely because the transfer committee HAVE tried to sign shorey, fox and bale- who are all left backs. So the transfer committee arent stopping us being overloaded with anything, they just havent got the players they were after :)

SO the club have said we have been in for those 3 players?

Yes Shorey on loan was a good move but he isn't coming here now.

As for the 6 options, Lynch as played just about every game for us at LB, as has Bennet. Cohen played there for West Ham and covered there admirally for us this season. Perch has played for a long period for us at full back although admittedly on the right, Gunter can play either side so swapping him with Perch would seem the natural thing to do. Wilson also can play that side although he is much more effective in the middle.

Maybe we are in for a LB but if we fail we hardly short of players to play there are we?
