Will we lose any key players in January?

Just been reading stuff on the beeb and noticed Wigan are being linked with a move for Swansea's Leon Britton - in my opinion, one of their best players.

Whilst it would be great to see our rivals being picked off by Premiership clubs like this we might not be completely immune from the threat ourselves.

Looking at our squad, I feel it looks relatively safe but I guess you can't be too complacent. If I had to be concerned over any players it would be Earnshaw, Morgan and Gunter. I think these players could improve one or two of the lower table Premiership sides. I would like to think they would be loyal to Forest, at least for this season, but we all know how fickle players can be when a good offer comes in.

Perhaps one of the things which protects us is that most our players are still relatively unknown, or only moved to Forest quite recently. There hasn't been enough time for Premiership scouts to gain conviction, nor enough time for any of our players to get itchy feet. If we do well this season but don't get promoted we are likely to be more vulnerable to Premiership poachers.

I can imagine - depending on what the 'sell to buy' policy is at the City Ground - that Billy could perhaps be convinced to part with either Earnie or McGugan if the offer was right, and he could secure replacements he wants.

Hopefully not though.

Gunter wont leave!
Id be gutted to see earnie go
but to be quite honest if anyone came in for Morgan id let him go! I mean he is a good player but there are far superior Centre Halfs out there!

I bet Preston fans thought that about McKenna

Why would he get rid of Earnie?

He's already proved he's a vital asset to this squad and will score plenty of goals at this level.

Can't see Earnie going anywhere to be honest, well I hope not anyway.

Don't misunderstand me, that's not what I want to happen, it's what I could imagine happening.

From the position we are in now I can't imagine Morgan leaving - when we were in League 1 then I would've understood if he left in order to further his career or to bring in some cash for the club if we needed to sell (like when we signed McGoldrick, it was an offer Southampton couldn't turn down)

Seeing as Gunter has only joined us this year it would take a massive transfer fee to force us to sell. The same goes for Blackstock who I think could definitely do a job in the Prem.

I could imagine McGugan moving on if he were unhappy and if the bid was big enough, the same with Garner aswell.

I'd be very surprised if anyone left. Why would you want to leave a team that are now going places? OK, a prem team might be calling but you could realise that dream next season with us.

Leon Brittan? - Doesn't look much like a footballer to me. ;D

I don't think Davies would get rid of Earnshaw, unless it was an offer in excess of £3m.

Even though I don't think he rates him as highly as he should, he know what a massive fans favourite he is and what an unpopular decision it would be to sell him.

As for McGugan, the lad has so much talent it would be foolish to sell him.

I really don't see anyone being sold, Davies wants a big squad so he's not going to let players leave.

Agreed - BD is building his squad and I can't see him unloading any of them at the moment - Some fans don't like Adebola, some don't like Mcgoldrick or Garner but none of them has let us down this season when given the chance.

I was sorry to see Matt Thornhill released and I thought it was just a matter of time before Arron Davies went but out of the current squad I can not see anyone else leaving.

Garner has been woeful, he's let himself down this season, out of position maybe but simply not good enough, no way will we recoup the £1.2 mill we paid for him sadly, what a waste, he's our lower league equivalent of the 3 italians.

I think if we were to bring in another striker, then we might see Garner leave, probably on loan though permanent is possible if the bid were big enough.

As for the rest, I don't think any will leave. This season's success has really been a team effort, and while many players have played very well, there isn't one player who stands out. None of our strikers has scored 15 goals already, for example. If a Premiership club were to come in for anyone, I would imagine it would be someone like Hull making an approach for Robbie Earnshaw, as much for his record at previous clubs (particularly West Brom given the level he would be playing at) as his performances at The City Ground.

21 years of age and still learning his trade - very much liked by BD so I can't see him going anywhere unless it's on loan to give him some games.

Davies himself even said 'he was an exciting young prospect and one for the future'.

Simply not true, Garner has struggled out of position this season. He's not been as bad in midfield as many have suggested.

However last season he scored some pretty important goals in keeping us up. I think he's an excellent young striker who will more than justify his seven figure fee given time.

The Italians did nothing of worth when here and cost us a fortune in fees and wages, it is a ludricous comparison.

You are a moron , the 3 italians cost far more with their wages and paying off their contracts. Garner proved last season that he can and he will score goals if he is put in his natural position of striker.

And youre a big fat dinner lady at some chavvy school, insults aside, If your statement was true he'd be a starting forward, he is becoming a utility player. he's the next eugen bopp, that player where people mention 'potential' etc

I don't think the way Morgan was playing in L1 was good enough to get him a move anywhere anyway. It did a job of sorts at that level, but it was riddled with mistakes and amateurish decisions. Only now are we seeing him back to the level where he's capable of turning heads at other clubs and although his heart's never been in question, he looks twice the player he did on that grim night against Yeovil a year or two ago.

Perhaps the whole thing was just a long, hideous nightmare and we never really left the Champ!
