Wilfred Bouma

I heard a whisper last night that Villa are looking to let him come to us - he has been out for 18 months with a serious injury and they need him to get fit.

He has played in reserve matches so far but O'Neill prefers a loan deal.

Doesn't matter , MA probably only fax over a loan request during the last hour of the loan window and then plugged the fax machine off until the deadline is over.

Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma has been told he is free to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Bouma, 31, has been out of action since dislocating his ankle in an Intertoto Cup tie against Danish side Odense at Villa Park in July 2008.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill told the club website: "He has been really unfortunate to be sidelined.

"I have the utmost regard for him and he has been a totally positive influence throughout my time here."

O'Neill continued: "He has fought back strongly to get himself fit again and he really wants to get back to the level of which he is undoubtedly still capable, so he wants to take this opportunity to do that and I wish him only the best."

The Netherlands international moved to Villa in August 2005 from PSV Eindhoven and made 90 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

His contract at Villa Park was due to expire in June.

If we could get him on trial for pre-season and he could prove his fitness, it would be a brilliant free transfer for the Premiership should we go up.

Would be great to have some genuine international quality and Premiership experience in our weakest position without breaking the bank.

He's injury prone , he's been out for 18 months and have not made one single appearance this season. Who knows how the injury might have affected him. Decent player but injury prone.

I have heard strong rumours about Bouma for a while now to be honest.

He would be a great player to bring in I think, however, I do believe he is on a right packet at Villa. He deffinatly needs one to keep putting fuel in the motor he's got!!

I was at the game where he broke his ankle and it was a horrible break but i'm sure he will bounce back from it.

Not really fair to call him injury prone. He had one bad injury which he is over now. It's not like he keeps constantly pulling muscles like Owen or Commons.

The only muscles Commons has are in his stomach.

Apart from the one Steve Gerrards missus (in my opinion) found between his legs.
