It bust yesterday due to a surge of people hitting at the same time to check out a transfer rumour.

Therefore to slow down the traffic this was temporaily installed while the server gets a look at and the 'overcrowding' problem rectified.

Members however, continue to come straight through.

... it's a throwback to yesterday, the traffic generated by Millsgate broke our database, I imagine we'll revert to guest access once we've shored up the defences a bit.

As far as I'm aware, no. I'm awaiting clarity from Stu on why that seems to be causing a prob, he only got back from holiday on Wednesday evening so I imagine it's not top of his list :)

Guest access is back open, the guests that looked like they were browsing the site during the members only period were most likely to be google which will try to check pages where adsense is being displayed to make sure the right sort of ad is being displayed.
