Why do people give Adebola a hard time?!

Once again I'm slightly bemused about all the anti-Adebola sentiment

It seems like alot of people are jumping on this band wagon which is coming through on these boards

Okay the guy is no Ronaldo but he provides a valuable alternative option for the team

The guy is big, strong and able to hold the ball up well to bring others into the action - a useful tool to have when our backs are against the wall or we're having difficulties breaking teams down.

Please, please, please stop this nonsense and support all the players that pull on the Garribaldi!!

i rate adebola, and I can't think why anyone doesn't? alright if billy was playing him for 90 minutes at home against plymouth then i would be p**sed off. but used in the right games he is a great asset to the team.

having said that, the keyboard bashers need someone to take their annoyance out on now perch isn't getting in the team

I think the majority of fans appreciate the job Adebola does for us and his value to the squad.

He is a good impact player for us and will play a decent role this season.

It can be frustrating to see such a big guy fail to win balls in the air against defenders half his size.

Remind me which games this happened in, specifically in regard to defenders 50% of the size of him...

I wondered if someone would be petty enough to expose the obvious exaggeration. I decided you were all too mature for that so I left it in. Forgot about you :)

So you don't care to specify which game(s) you're referring to?

That kinda gives your comment all the credibility it deserves.

I just don't like him, don't like his style of play at all. I've had no problem with some of his performances this season, but I don't agree with the people who think he has been excellent any more than I agree with those who say he has been rubbish - the truth is somewhere in the middle. He does a job at times, no question of that, but I'd prefer to have something better than a 34 year-old journeyman on (supposedly) large wages.

Just to clarify, I don't think he's excellent. I think he's an option that's proven shrewd at times.

I admit I underestimated him. But I maintain that he is nowhere near as good in the air that you would expect of someone with his size. Blackstock is far better. As for a specific game, there have been countless times where he has been brought on as an outlet when we were winning, or as a last resort if we weren't, and had the ball hoofed up to him and he refused even to jump.

If there are plenty you won't have a problem naming a specific example.

Agree that Blackstock is much more effective.

I can't remember who they were against. But you know as well as I do what I am talking about, and I have already said that I underestimated him, and you have said he is not excellent, so I don't think we really disagree anymore.

I've never seen him refuse to jump, nor regularly lose out to smaller defenders.

It concerns me that some fans (not yourself) seem to expect him to come on with Tyson's pace, Earnie's finishing and Dexter's workrate which patently is never going to be the case.

I see no reason for him to not give 100% effort, and match Dexter's workrate. We are paying him aren't we?

When I talk about workrate I mean his capacity for movement, which at his age will never match Dexter's. I'm not suggesting he doesn't give 100% effort.

He's not been excellent by any means, however, he's good to bring on in those tough games where plan A isn't working. He was brought to the club for a purpose, and i think he goes that job well.

However, i do actually agree that i've been disappointed as to how many balls he wins in the air for his size and strength. That's not me getting on his back, far from it, but the game against Plymouth sticks out in my mind. He'd battle for the ball but very rarely win it and and 9 times out of 10 just end up on his backside.

I've witnessed that a couple of times (sorry for not knowing the exact games) where he's not won the ariel ball alot. In complete contrast to Dexter, who seems to win alot of ariel balls and is far more effective. However, overall i think he's work ethic and contribution has been good.

I doubt all those moaning we're complaining when he flicked that ball onto Moussi for his goal in injury time we're they?

To be honest I struggle to think of one aspect of the game where Adebola is better than Blackstock. And a tired Blackstock is probably fitter than a fresh Adebola. So unless Dexter is injured, Adebola should not get a look in as far as I'm concerned.

*Manhood doesn't count as an aspect of the game.

Dele provides an alternative, for me an old fashioned type striker, enabling Billy to select his strikers depending on the opposition, seems to be working so far (I did disagree with his rotation policy to begin with!!)

Who cares if you rate him or not, as long as he gives 100 per cent when he is on the pitch, grabs the odd goal, some people rate players and some people don't, it is just part of football.

Anyways as to the tune of Lola by the Kings (I have posted a full version a while ago ;D)

I met him in a club down in Nottingham
where you drink champagne
and it tastes just like cherry-cola (C-o-l-a cola)
Billy walked up to me he asked me to sign
He asked me my name and in a dark quiet voice I said Bola
Dele Adebola
