Who at left back?

After all this transfer window nonsense (glad that's ended!)....Its left abit of a dilemma for me, Who to play at left back? Alot of people have said Cohen but I think that will cause us to lose something in the midfield and going forward...personally I would but Gunter at left back and play Perch/Chambers at right back as i feel this would cause less disruption to the balance of the team, It's harder for a right sided midfielder to convert to a left sided full back than it is a full back to swap flanks and much easier for a right sided midfielder to slot in at right back, Now I never played at a high level but my favoured position was the right side of centre midfield but whenever we had a similar defensive problem I would always be switched to right back and full back switched over and the change was seemless.
Gunter would cope better with the defensive principles at left back that Perchy can, and let's be honest knowone wants Lynch there do we? :nowink:

Nicky Shorey!!

Only another few games for perchy, cohen or gunter to play left back b4 we get a certain premiership left back on loan.

Stick with Perch. Did he really do that a bad job at Derby? From the highlights, it looks like they only created chances from corners/free kicks (as usual). I'm struggling to think of any other team in the league that plays like Derby, so I don't think that game is useful as a measuring stick for how he would do against anybody else. He's done ok in past games? He was very good against QPR.

Besides, nobody really played well against Derby did they...

Perch and Cohen are both capable of playing there if necessary as both have looked good their - in spells.

Maybe there'll be a suprise appearance from Bennett...

Against Wednesday I think we should show faith with the same team.

Then when we're away from home revert to the 4-5-1/4-3-3 with Perch dropping to the bench.

Saturday's side:

Camp

Gunter Morgan Wilson Perch

Anderson McKenna Majewski Cohen

Earnie Dex
Then the following game:

Camp

Gunter Morgan Wilson Cohen

Moussi McKenna

Anderson Majewski Tyson

Blackstock

Not given chance with the rugby style tactics on display...but yeah a bad all round display, It happens...job done move on...my thoughts aren't a reflection on saturday just my thoughts in general...either way the 2 lads will do us proud there, Perchy gets some stick but he's a valuable player to have...alot of clubs feel the same way to by all accounts?

they must have seen something in him to bring him back, seems a shame for the lad, he wasnt all that bad in my opinion.

He did have a few decent games last season. He chipped in with a few assists too, he can actually cross the ball pretty well from the left hand side.

But Billy would rather play an out of position Cohen or right-footed Gunts/Perch in that position ahead of him...?

Me, I'd stick with Perch. He's taking undeserved flack at the moment. He wasn't at fault for D*rbys goal (blame Wes, or BD for not telling Dele to stick on Hulse).
One thing for sure though, a proper left-back is a must in the long-term, and not Julian Pub Player Bennett :nowink:

I'm not having a dig at Perchy bud...I'm a fan of him, very valuable to the side my point was I think Perch is a better right back as he is left back and Gunts is very comfortable at left back, Not much in it personal preference i suppose?

I think reverting Chris Cohen would be a step backwards again, as we all well know he can offer so much more in Midfield. If Davies was that keen on keeping Perch then he must make this left back spot his own because he simply isn't going to get ahead of anyone else in other positions. I haven't seen Lynch play so far this season however under Davies he did seem more accustomed to the left back spot, does anyone know who is the current Left Back for the reserves?

Completley forgot about that to be honest!

Looking at the full squad we have the following choices:

Julian Bennett - Can't seem him featuring this season, even if he does return to full fitness which is highly unlikely.
Chris Gunter - Would more than fit in well I would imagine maybe giving Perch an easier job on the right.
James Perch - Looks the favourate to take on the role however big questions remain.
Joel Lynch - Seemed to become more accustomed to the role towards the end of last season.
Chris Cohen - If Perch doesn't take to the role then I can see him taking over the role for the season.
Jordan Fairclough - Right back by trade anyway and still a million miles away from the first team.

Whoever takes on the left back role it would just complicate things in other area's, I would therefore agree that Perch is the best man for the job currently but we really do need to bring someone in as soon as possible.

I wouldn't like to see cohen put left back as it wastes his talents ,It would have to be perch

Everyone I have spoken to agrees that one lesson to be learned from Saturday is that Perch is NOT a left back - then I see people on this forum saying 'he didn't have a bad game' he was rubbish.

We should be looking to play Cohen at left back and bring Tyson in to play opposite Anderson, attack down both wings and rip the Owls to pieces!

don't you think cohen is wasted as a left back ?

Wasted - no, I agree that it's not his best position but I would rather have a left footed player.

At home it gives us the chance to bring in Tyson for his pace and away we can bring in Moussi to shore up midfield (which we should have done on Saturday).

Gunther plays well at left back without ever really looking comfortable but I would rather play him there and Perch at right back that vice versa!

Suppose with this argument you have to take into consideration who your opponents are and how they play...Do Sheff weds play with fast, tricky wingers or as i suspect a spoiling type game through the middle?Whichever I'm sure perch, Gunter can handle them.
But yes I really do think we lose alot by playing Cohen left back....His pace and energy in midfield on top of Raddy' tricks & vision is alot to take care of which helps in nullifying opposing midfield endeavours.
