Kilburn Red
First Team Squad
Perhaps a week late, but tonight feels more like the start of the football season?
Could be something to do with a 10am start tomorrow.
Sat back throughout the close season and viewed from afar. But what a close season!
Possibly the best close season in terms of signings for over a decade.
But why the u-turn from our Nigel??
Could it be one of the following or a combination of factors?
1 - Sick and tired of failure culminating in relegation battles (With a risk of millions lost in revenue)
2 - Finally having faith in a manager (Or having met his match)
3 - The rising prominence of a club down Brian Clough Way fronted by ex Forest players? Albeit built upon ridiculously inflated attendance figures created with thousands of free school kid tickets and £200 season ticket offers etc
4 - The oldest club in the world finally rising like a Phoenix from the flames and threatening a Nottingham revolution not seen since Brian walked on the Trent?
5 - The potential of Nottingham becoming a World Cup Finals venue and the many financial rewards linked to this including a hefty hand out from the Council to rebuild/redevelop etc?
6 - Huge wind farm contracts ensuring potentially huge sums of cash over the next decade+
What do I think? ...........................
I ain't got a clue. But what I do know is Nigel has put the feel good factor back into Nottingham Forest.
Lets no forget the years of misery inflicted by some very poor business decisions from a world respected businessman - That never added up. Nigel's stance on Forest has obviously changed and that can only be good for us long suffering fans. It can easily be argued with regards as to why did he sell the family silver years ago only to shell the cash out years later to rebuild to a team of similar strength. At that point Nigel had more wealth on paper?
Anyway...That's gone now.
Instead of looking at the fixture list thinking we might pick up a draw there and a home win against Plymouth its now a case of no fixture holds any fear - We have the squad that has the potential to put us somewhere in the top 6 and more importantly we have a manager who knows how to do it with a Championship record second to none.
Sure there will be a few lumps and bumps along the way, but the club is now heading once more in the right direction - for whatever reason.
Direby fans are running for cover. Even the Magpies are spending more in the transfer market. The football wheel of fortune has turned full circle again and the reds are on the way back to their rightful place in English football.
For what its worth. Thank you, Nigel. Its good to have you on-board!
