...that the supposed fall out between Billy and the Board is all part of a game. Billy wants the Premiership - so does the Board. Billy wants depth of squad - so does the Board. It's all about politics and brinkmanship. Billy avows commitment to his contract with the club. The club is in it for the long game.

Inexperience in the machinations of football cost Doughty dear in the Platt, Kinnear, Megson eras. He's wised up since then - he's not the first to have fallen for those 3 all of whom have sunk into obscurity (Platt's qualification for shining his trousers on the Citeh bench being his ability to translate Italian).

He is not going to sanction ridiculous spending because, even if Forest get promotion, it would make the figure in the debit column even bigger than it is now and will certainly dwarf that in the credit column.

Whatever some might think of venture capital specialists, why should Doughty do anything more than spend his own money in a wise and considered fashion.

Billy knows this - a good negotiator, he is going in high, applying pressure realising that Doughty won't keel over but will feed in the correct amount, at the right time for the right players.

so the right amount, at the right time, for the right players.....When exactly is this? Im pretty sure it was in the summer because we have certainly gone backwards since then and that to me suggests we needed to buy.

As interesting and perhaps plausible this might seem, I'm still missing something. Maybe I'm a bit thick, but I don't understand what benefit has been or can be achieved on behalf of the board by publicly stating (on several occasions) that there is plenty of money available for quality signings?

Something someone said on the radio last night struck a chord.....
IF Forest had paid the asking price for Prattley and Whittingham last summer when we said they were our main targets, then we would have been in a better position (maybe) in the league, we wouldnt have all the bickering about strength in depth etc, and things maybe looking a little rosier with regards to us pushing on for promotion, HOWEVER, we didnt pay the asking price and as such lost out on the players we wanted to bring in, Premiership clubs have now shown an intrest in these players, there cost will now have risen when it comes to the transfer window in January, what was in the region of £2m each, will probably now be in the region of £4m each, how is that spending wisely as Forest put it when negotiating transfers with clubs?
This may have just backfired for Forest with these 2, and now will have to look at bringing in someone else....who knows.

Ialso think that the amount of cash that will be available come January, will be assessed on whether England get the world cup which if i'm right, is announced in December.

Nor do I understand why the playing of this 'game' is in any way good for Nottingham Forest. Whilst this 'game' is being played, Billy ends up looking like a brawling moron and the club looks from the outside world like it belongs in the Sunday league. Good game - lots of fun. So I'll tell you when I'll twig. Never. It's bollocks; nobody in their right mind would be deliberately playing this game. Who in their right mind would gain from it? How about some more games? Dignity, professionalism, modesty, maturity, common sense - none of which are shown very regularly by Billy in his dealings with the press

His rhetoric is consistently symbolic of his contempt for the fans of Nottingham Forest

If Billy was so convinced about the signing of certain players and certain in guiding Nottingham Forest to the prem league. perhaps he should show his commitment by buying the players himself? I'm serious, if he went to Doughty with his business plan Doughty would listen. Get himself a zero interest loan for Doughty Hanson investments, put his house up as equity against the loan. He wont

That is why Billy is the manager. He hasn't a clue about the actual workings of a football club.

Doughty is a Nottingham Forest supporter. Billy is a Billy Davies supporter.

bye bye in January Billy, hope you find work at another Championship club :nowink:

When will we all twig? I think you're bark-ing up the wrong tree. Oak-ie Dokie? :D

Was Fabianski's shirt designed by Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake?

Everyone always imagines that it is the banana skin you slip up on.

Actually, if you have never seen or eaten a banana, it is the concept of a banana you slip up on.

Rayvon, I believe we have missed the Whittingham boat.
As with Pratley, he is out of contract at the end of the season so I doubt an auction will be horrendous. It may be the case that wages will then play a large part in his ambitions.
RRRRREDUN, Agree with most of it, Billy is bleating in the media, the club are being professional and not having a media slanging match.
As for Billy, my stance has changed a little, I now have a bit of sympathy regards the lack of players brought in. BUT as I have said before he knew what he was coming into. His job is to train and prepare what he has, he should think himself lucky he has a job!!!!!!
BTW has anyone still got Mr O Neills number

Agree with that - looks to me as though billy and Nigel have diametrically opposite agendas - hopefully billy's pride and determination will lead to a continued upturn in our form - if not I cant see him lasting - would be interesting to see who was the source of the original 3 day week story - I'd like to see us close to an automatic place for Christmas, then BD walk / get pushed and MO'n and new players in in Jan. (that fits the facts as a possible scenario)

Problem is though ND putting the brakes on the transfer funds while saying there is money in the pot has happened before (if you believe some accounts) and another (possibly even more likely) scenario sees us content to tread water at this level.

Out of all the ridiculous posts i've seen on this forum I think this tops it!

What happens when the player Billy has taken a loan out for turns out to be Andrea Silenzi?

This line always makes me laugh. Billy davies is a billy davies supporter, what on earth is wrong with that? It means hes driven to success, which is what we all want isnt? How is it a bad thing?

I'd suggest nigel doughtys record since he got involved with the club proves beyond doubt he has no clue how to run a football club. At least billys determination for success has gotten us somewhere, whereas all doughty being a supporter has ever achieved is an accumulation of £60 million worth of debt, losses of £6 million a year, division 3 and a club which now has more in common with a youth club than a top football club.

Being a fan doesnt mean you've done a good job, or are even fit to do the job- which I dont think doughty is.

Do we apply this bizzarre logic to the players too? Mcgugan and camp are man u fans, gunter and earnshaw are cardiff fans, cohen is a west ham fan and thats just a couple- should we get rid of them and replace them with forest fans? Should we only have people at the club who are lifelong forest supporters?
Because im pretty sure they all only play for forest to earn thier living and progress thier careers, rather than out of some love of the club. Even brian clough, god, was a fan of a different club- and look what he achieved here. Being a forest fan, has no bearing on your ability to do the job right.

Everyone is in it for themselves ultimately.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the above post.

Football clubs generally do not make profits and it's always been like that, therefore, fans are the only logical owners.

There can only be three clubs each year promoted to the promised land and these are quite often the relegated teams who have a few quid spare.

Who are top of the Championship? QPR who have money but have built a team slowly and Cardiff who quite possibly cheated their way there.

I know which club I think has done it right and I'm glad we are doing things similarly to them.

Patience is not an often used word in football but it should be because there are only a few prizes for hundreds of teams.

I think theres some confusion in your post as well. QPR signed 10 players over the summer. How do you consider that a slow build? Is that somehow not as bad as the 3 to 5 signings or so billy said he wanted?

They also bought in about the same amount the season before, and have been through close to 14 managers in 4 years.

You really think they've done things the right way, and want us to emulate them? Patience is most definitely not a word that applies to QPR.

I agree with your sentiments about a slow building process, but you picked the wrong example dude :)

My main point is that doughty being a fan means nothing in reality. It doesnt matter if the people in charge, or the players, or the tea lady are life long fans- as that has no bearing on thier ability to do a good job.

Thanks Kent

I'm sure I will be treating your future posts with equal contempt...

Feel free to pull me up if I post as much bullsh*t as you!

Davies wants to bring success to this club but has a different idea of budgets compared to Doughty (I don't blame him for running the club this way)

There's going to be varying views on this from the fans....some will want to sign all the top players and think the club can attract players of potential premiership quality and pay them sufficiently (Which isn't possible). In reality the club are trying to build stability in the long term and are not going to break the bank to achieve success.

Davies wants success for this club and Doughty wants to run the club with some kind of financial logic. I like both stances but will they be able to find some middle ground. There could be a lot worse managers in charge than Billy Davies and there could be a lot worse chairman involved than Doughty.
