What's wrong with our football?

Now, I love my daughter dearly and have put up with her bringing some dross home as boyfriends in the past but this latest offering is testing my patience.

He insists that Billy Davies's team don't play attractive football and, even when forced to admit that we do sometimes, he say sometimes it is for 20 minutes and then we go back to playing the ball sideways. He agrees with me when I say I would rather see my team win 1-0 every game than win half and lose half but still thinks that Billy Davies is rubbish.

Now here comes the rub - he is a Baggies fan! He admits that we outplayed them and should have won earlier in the season but still refuses to accept that a Billy Davies can play football.

I could simply put it down to the fact that he is a Baggies fan (and season ticket holder), or that he is a semi-pro goalkeeper (we all know that they are crazy) both of which mean he deserves pity rather than condemnation.

What should I do? He is way past redemption. I could throw my daughter out and consequently never have to see him again. I could just ban him from the house, but that may cause a few problems with my daughter or I could continue with my attempts to re-educate him and show him a brighter future. Alternatively I could put it down to the fact that he is an arsehole who knows nothing about football and just ignore him.

He has to relocate to our area and he has decided that the only place he wants to live is in the next village on a new development called The Hawthorns!

Hmmmmmm he sounds like a bit of a fool. I know a few places where you could easily hide a body.

He obviously is a lost case . . .

I on the other hand, have not long come out of a relationship, would share a mutual love of BD and Forest, have a nice car, nice home, a few £ in the bank, good prospects and I play centre back so not all that crazy . . . . . . 8)

P.s.

She is of legal age right ?

Make her get rid. This season we have played some great attractive football, and we can scrap to a result too.

The only thing that's wrong with our football is we don't score quite enough goals. I'm still waiting for us to stick four or five past someone, and turn these 1-1 draws into 2-1 wins etc.

My personal suggestion would be to invest in three quality wingers come January. I don't think there's enough end product from Anderson, McCleary seems to have stalled somewhat in his development and we need cover for Tyson.

That's not really the question you were asking though is it? As far as the quality of the football is concerned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It might not have the flair of the Baggies, but it's solid defensively and always asks the opposition questions. We play like we have a plan which is miles better than it was under Megson, Kinnear and Platt. I would even go as far as to say the football is better than it was under Paul Hart. It may not be as pretty, but I get the feeling it is more resilient and flexible than it was under him.

I don't think that's too much of an issue at the moment. We play a lot with the intention more to keep a clean sheet and nick a goal or two rather than go with the aim of just scoring more than we have scored against us like a Keegan team. It's not too dissimilar from the way a certain ex-manager used to play. I'd rather we won 1-0 than drew 3-3 so I'm quite happy for the intent in the way we play our football to continue.

that's what i thought ! when does he get the chance to go and watch albion if he's playing nearly every week? i used to play nearly every saturday and most tuesday or wednesday nights and the worse thing was not being able to watch forest that often (maybe 4-5 games if i was lucky) so i can't see the point in him having a season ticket.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I would much rather us win 1-0 than draw 3-3 too. However, given the dominance we seem to enjoy for sustained periods of each match against almost any opposition (I will admit here that my impression of this is based on 3 matches plus one on TV this season; I'm not a CG regular), to not convert that dominance into a couple of goals at least slightly worries me for the future.

Essentially, my point is how many clear-cut chances have we missed this season? From what I've seen, the answer is not many. I think the problem is that our dominance doesn't result in clear-cut chances which in turn means we don't score the goals I think we should.

I agree I think that we have let ourselves down with finishing at times but in the same respect I think we are creating a lot of chances and it's the finishing not the providing that is the problem. It seems strange that this is the case though as we have some great finishers to choose from at the moment in Earnshaw and Blackstock especially so hopefully now they're both fit the ball will start hitting the net a bit more often.

I'm not so sure it is the finishing, I think it's the step before that.

My main gripe with Anderson is the number of times he goes surging forwards only to stumble/slip, or cut inside and hit a weak shot, or fail to get a cross in. His pace and work-rate are brilliant but if they aren't allied to more end product his selection seems a bit of a waste to me.

I would like to see us invest in a couple of top quality wingers who will give us a bit more threat in this area.

They are still all bitter about how Davies' D*rby side beat them in the playoff final a few years back and I guess this boyfriend may have the same thoughts in his head.Maybe he should start watching us week in week out,for quality of football,it has been the best I've watched in years if not ever.Someone will recieve a thrashing in the coming months.

:hi:

against Blackburn in the CC we were playing attacking football were we not?

The football we are playing now is like the start of last season's (quite good) but whereas last season we were not grinding out results, we are now.

happy now?

I was waiting for someone to ask that.

Yeah, I'm pleased to see us turn our 'dominance' into goals. I say 'dominance' since I see that Doncaster had 55% of the possession (at least that's what it said on my phone).

This is what I've been waiting for. I hope it continues next Saturday too. :)
