What the hell?!

Erm,, i'm not sure how to start this thread or indeed how to finish it.

But basically i have a season ticket in the Trent Upper and decided that for today's game i fancied sitting somewhere with a bit more atmosphere than the morgue i'm used to. So i used one of those vouchers you get at the back of the pretty red booklet they give you with your season ticket and swapped my seat for somewhere up in the Bridgford Stand, over in the corner.

All was well, i had a great view of the pitch (as i do in the Trent End), there was a pretty young blonde in police uniform in front of me who i would have definatley shagged senseless given the opportunity, however this time I was surrounded by people daring to stand up and make some noise. The sheer thuggery of it all.

Cue, PC Plod and his mate with the expensive looking SLR Camera down in the lower tier wasting their time and our tax money filming those in the upper tier who had dared to commit the most despicable of crimes. I'm not talking about murder, i'm not talking about rape, i'm not talking about robbery, i'm talking about 'standing up'. Yes thats right, you read it right the first time, 'standing up'. And to make matters worse, these violent thugs were singing songs as well.

Now being a Trent End regular i'm not used to these tax wasting shenanigans as we are all so quiet and boring over there, but i came away from the match today genuinely shocked at the amount of money and resource wasted simply through watching, monitoring, and filming people who dared to stand up.

Now come on, this is f*****g ridiculous.

First of all i would like to apologise to all those people on this forum who have ranted against the officials in charge of crowd control at our ground over the past few years. I have read your opinions but dismissed them quite easily as people simply out to cause trouble. I was wrong. I'm sorry for that.

Just how can the idiots at NFFC and the local government justify this expenditure when the country is in such financial ruin through unemployment? Just what is the bloody point of pursueing people who choose to stand up inside the City Ground? What the bloody hell are the FA playing at by making clubs take these pathetic measures against the people who pay money out of their wages, week in, week out to support their team in the country's national sport?

I am genuinely shocked and angered by what i witnessed today at our football ground. As someone who works their bollocks off for minimal pay i cannot for the life of me understand why so much of the taxpayers money is being wasted by paying our Police force to film people 'standing up' at a football match. It's disgusting. Do they also film people at Rugby and Cricket matches like this as well?

Apologies for the above post, I wasn't sure where to put this on the forum but felt the need to rant after what i witnessed today. Lets hope that the FA come to their senses soon and realise they are slowly killing the atmosphere in our football grounds as the seasons tick by following the horrendous decision by Lord Justice Taylor to instigate All Seater Grounds in English Football.

I doubt it costs that much to point a video camera at potential troublemakers?

It's much cheaper than installing a more up to date video surveilance set up?

What troublemakers?

I've been following Nottingham Forest home and away since i was 8 years old and have yet to see any trouble inside our stadium caused by our fans

Cardiff are classed as a catagory A game because of crowd trouble with them previously.

Extra police would have been present today, and I'm sure after some steward got done over they would have been more vigilant with certain sections of the crowd.

Unfortunately you are part of 'evidance' if anything did happen. The police would go back over how ever many tapes to nail you if you did anything to see if you have history at games.

I know you were standing and singing and thats part of the football experiance, I'm the same and do agree with some of your points.
Every time fans stand up for a prolonged time even when singing the cameras go into overdrive as it's classed as a possible flash point as something could crack off. Obviously not as much so in The Brain Clough stand and the Trent End, but where the away fans are things are dealt with in a stricter fashion.

Unfortunatley it also explains the net above the away fans. If everyone is standing up it gives good cover to throw objects ( something I've actually witnessed myself last season in the VC corner).
I think we are the architects in our own problems around away fans, as our record with 'missiles' has a pretty high strike rate.
This is why I think those in VC corner and A Block experience shitty policing and stewards more then most.

A block was o.k today apart from them checking everyones ticket that entered the stand. there was one brief moment when they decided to make everyone sit down and got realy arsey over it and quite aggressive needless to say there atempts failed and they didnt bother for the rest of the game

Why did they send the bald 'land lord' chap out?

All he did was stand up (for about 10 seconds) and get everyone chanting 'Nottingham..'.

if your talking about A block then there was a chant of stand up if you hate derby from that direction and think they claimed he started it. usual bullshit you come to expect from the lazy stewards

Nah, it was in U1, upper Bridgford.

I doubt they were pointing cameras at you to catch you standing up. That would just be stupid if you think about it, wouldnt it?

Why do you think we have a net over the away fans?

He was sat directly behind me and did nothing but sing and try an get the crowd going which he did very well.

Think I am going to move elsewhere next season if it continues like this!

Slightly off topic, but similarly daft, did anyone see on those highlights of a Reading game a banner being taken around reading "just say NO to naughty language". Tossers.

Just because you've not seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

This isn't Minority Report, lots of people have the potential to do something they shouldn't and no one has the ability to exactly predict who will suddenly flip and decide to lob a few objects onto the Cardiff folks below.

Honestly, if you think this is the biggest single waste of tax payers money, then you should go down the town centre pubs on benefits day.

I think I did get told off at Peterborough for waving at the police camera though. lol

lol Yeah, I saw that.

If that's not going to incite more foul language, I don't know what is!

Don't Forest contribute to the policing? (doesn't take away from the ridiculousness Eddie points out, just that it probably isn't a tax burden).

They took 'landlord' out for standing up and starting a chant, then sitting down again - in response to a chant of 'landlord give us a song' from the dudes at the back of the stand.

True enough they let him back in again, but apparently his 'crime' was 'inciting the other fans to stand up'.

Interestingly I overhead a steward on our exit commenting "If they're not going to do anything about those"...(referring to the Cardiff fans, who stood up for the entire game)... ".. then why should we be giving these a hard time?".

They seemed to calm down after that.

So the fans pay for it then, or ND does.

the policing was ridiculous yesterday! i sit in vcc andwhen they took 'landlord' out my dad went down stairs and said there was 6 people around him, 4 police, 2 stewards. the police werent bothered about him it was the stewards! after 20 minutes into the second half the stewards were trying to get people to sit down and there was this new steward there instead of the guy with the thin grey hair. he stood right infront of me and my dad and told every one to sit down so my dad replied "i cant see cos you're obstructing my view." normally the old guy would apologise and crouch down or carry on moving up the aisle but this obnoxious man replied "its my job to tell you to sit down" so then dad replied " ive payed to watch my team play not some flourescent jacket!" this guy stood there for another 5 minutes people to sit down so dad left the ground and had a go at the stewards on the way out saying how they killed the atmosphere and watched the rest of the match at the navvy!

You don't mention whether or not you were asked to sit down at any stage, if you weren't then what's the problem. Also, I'm sure that the monies for Policing will have come from the club.

As someone else said, this was a CAT A match & as such the crowd around the away fans have to be monitored. They weren't filming you standing up they were watching in case somebody decided to throw a coin or such like.

When "The Landlord" got thrown out he asked what he had done and the steward just said he wanted a word. The Copper then told to steward to leave it and let the guy continue to watch the match but unbelievably the steward overpowered the copper and insisted that "The landlord" came down for a chat.

Little fecking hitlers although I do suggest that their orders come from the top rather than doing it off their own back. Bexson (or whatever his name is) is a grade A w**ker!

What's telling about this Eddie is that the experience you get in the Trent End is replicated in the Upper Bridgford if you sit in V1/V2. The real issue in VC Corner and A-block is the way some fans approach the away fans as much as anything.
