What now for perch?

Now we have our top 2 choices back in midfield in the shape of Moussi and Mcgugan, what now for Mr Perch?

Right Back?
Centre Back?
Goalkeeper?

Currently cover for the Moose, who was - and I like Perch - more effective than him yesterday. However, he is returning to fitness, tuesday may come too soon for him.

Seems a shame for Perchy, as I think he has had his best season so far for us. I'd expect him to constantly be in the first 16

It's always healthy to have cover for eventualities which means flexibility in any position is key.

I like Perch as RB and believe we have a greater need for him there at the moment considering the Moose's comeback. However, things change on a game by game basis and we should always play to our strengths in line with our opponents weaknesses.

Right back without a doubt, or bench. He's simply not got what McGugan's got, even though Lewis hasn't done it often enough this season. Probably at least Chambers' equal or better at right back though, and would be nice to have a player there who's not an out of position centre half for the first time in yonks.

With Wes out I wonder if Perch goes back to Right back with Chambers slotting in the Centre back slot!

I'm sure he'll get in the first XI somewhere given how shite we are in certain positions. I'd happily play him at left-back ahead of Lynch, tbh, though right-back should be his defined position.

I notice he's coming in for a lot of criticism because we won a match without him. We also won a lot of matches on the bounce when he inherited the captaincy. Not that saying either thing proves anything about Perch as a player - he's a Championship everyman in my eyes and the sort of guy who's useful to have on the bench to cover for numerous positions. He'll do you a job, sometimes he'll look pretty good, other times pretty bad. He tries his best and puts his foot in - two things that cannot be said of others, unfortunately.

I think he would make quite a good centre back. Well let's face it we could do with anyone at the moment for that area of the field.

Perch should be decent enough at right back. But when I've seen him play there he hasn't looked great. Didn't he give the penalty away last week from right back? I think he's had a good season, and defensive midfielder is definitely his best position. I'm sure we'll need him in there between now and the end of the season, you can't beat a bit of good healthy competition.

Perch is a utility player, i'd like to see him tried at CB, isn't that the position he says he prefers? and the position he started out as, wasn't it the vile megson who converted him to a midfield role?

Keep him as far away from the starting eleven as possible,he's poor.
We play much better when he's not in the team.
He missed the Qpr game-we got a point.
He missed the Reading game-we got three points.
He played the four games inbetween-we lost them all.
No coincidence.
He made three vital contrebutions in the last few games,
heading into his own net from 15 yards against ipswich,
giving a penalty away against derby and blazing the ball over from a yard out also against derby.
Other than that it was his usual 7 or 8 touches per game, many of them back passes to a keeper who ain't great at kicking.
As for being captain..good grief!

Where did Lewis start yesterday though?? from the bbc line up, it appeared to be on the right, with Moussi and Cohen in the centre, and Anderson left. Then when Tyson went off, we went sort of 4-5-1. Personally out of all the positions Perch has played, I think he's best at right back. BUT I dont think he is the long term solution there either, otherwise he would have made that position his own already, but he's not a specialist there, and he's had to fill other positions. In the long run, Moloney, as a natural right back, is the one who probably should be given the opportunity to make the spot his own (as Chambers has for a long time proved he's not the best there) or id like to see us sign someone. Perch is Forest's Mr Versatile, every club needs one, and he may, next season, find himself as more of a squad player, when the major surgery is done in the summer.

Well said!!! he has been an absolute shower of sh** this season, he was booked so much because he was far to slow with his tackling. Should have sold him to Sunderland when we had the chance!

Couldn't agree more!!

As for being Captain, that's another sore point!!

I like Perch because he tries hard. He has bags of energy, works hard for the team and always gives 100%. That said, so does the kitman and he is not taking one of the eleven places in the side.

He cannot pass to save his life and there is very little to his game. Play him at right back or keep him as a squad player but he is not a first choice a central midfielder, its such a pivotal position in the side and we need someone there who can offer a little more composure and quality.

He is okay when we are 1 or 2 up and defending a lead, but unfortunately this season that doesn't often happen and it is more than not the other way round. When we are chasing a goal you can't have him in the team as there is no creativity.

I've never really understood why he appears to be the first name on the team sheet? He is either a 'nice lad' or he is amazing in training??

Forest fans used to slate McGovern for much the same reasons.

Perchy isn't in John's league, however to suggest he's been rubbish this season is very short-sighted. He's had the odd off day (his last appearance against Derby was one), but generally he's had a decent season I think.

He does have limitations though, as shown up by the Moose yesterday.

He's a good tackler, and contrary to what someone said above he can pass a ball. Like most Forest fans I'd like to see him given his chance at right back, but overall he's definitely an asset to us even if that is only as a squad player.

i'm with you on this one , he's had a decent season but i'd always have moussi in midfield ahead of him for his range of passing alone.

Great squad player due to his versitility, but wouldnt be in my first 11.

Can you imagine him playing for anyone else though - i cant?!

I honestly fail to see where the vitriol against Perch comes from, but then again it gives Smithy a rest from some of our mindless critics this week. Perch is a fine unsung player, who's contribution is valued far more by the players he plays alongside week in week out than some of our supporters, but then again what the hell do the players know or appreciate about another players contribution. ???

I would love to see Perch getting an extended chance to make the troublesome right back spot his own.

That is James problem his versitility, it works against him not being settled in one position. I remember watching him at youth and reserve level and he looked a class act at center half. Big Joe gave him his debut in that position but like John Thomson before him due to his versitility he gets shuffled around to fill in where required. It may be ideal for Forest but its far from ideal for Perchy and his game suffers because of it.
