He never makes the bench or plays for the reserves is he just sat at home playing tents while watching his bank account go up , I have nothing against him but think its a great waste for him and waste of money for us :confused: or has he left and I just missed it ?
 
Still on our books I believe.. I guess he's sitting his contract out if nobody moves for him. He was training with West 'Am at some point but I guess that didn't come to anything.
 
Quite bizarre that he was handed a contract extension, only to be completely frozen out months later.

He wasn't frozen out, he asked for a transfer after being treated like shit by his supposed supporters. I'd do the same as Davies here - blood Darlow as best I could on the basis that Smith could be gone tomorrow.

And sarcastic thanks to the fans for giving him the shit they did, as I'm sure Camp is a much better motivated keeper this season looking over and seeing Darlow on the bench as opposed to someone who could ever realistically take the jersey off him.
 
I'm surprised nobody has come in for him, I thought he was the best keeper in the world.

Even with the ease of having little Notts next to us and loaning them all of our shit, they still didn't come in even with their keeper problems at the start of the season.

Smith was an average keeper, it's just a shame some tried to big him up as the dogs bollocks leaving his glaring mistakes obvious to all.

Indeed. If Smith was half the keeper that some have made him to be, he would have been snapped up by now or wouldn't even have lost his place initially.

If he was good enough he would still be our no. 2 as we're still paying his wages after all.

He's a decent keeper, not the best in the world of course, but certainly good enough for a lower championship/high League One side id say.
 
He was complete rubbish against Lyon. He didn't deserve the level of abuse he got but he didn't deserve a pat on the back either!

When it completely destroys the fragile confidence of a player in need of re-assurance and a good performance. Yes he looked rusty and out-of sorts but so did the whole of the team in the friendlies. Paul Smith is an excellent goalkeeper and on the day has the ability to win matches with his outstanding displays of agility and shot-stopping as shown in the First Division. Somehow most fans have forgetten his heroics, instead attacking a player who needs a morale boost. The player quite rightly is looking for first team football, may it be from a Championship or First Division team and so shouldn't receive the personal criticism or insults from the fans.

That was kinda my point, how can a slightly ropey (or very ropey) performance in a friendly be justification for such bile. Some of our fans are idiots.

I agree with the abuse, whilst I never particuarly rated him there was no need to criticise him so heavily on a match day and single him out. Having said I always thought the level of it was exagerated; it always seemed to me a few people dotted around the crowd rather than a significant proportion. I wasn't at the Lyon game so can't comment on that though.
 
Camp coming in has really affected Smith. He seemed to make mistakes whenever he was brought into the team, eg in the cup, which is not really good enough. That's probably part of why he's disappeared too.
 
It's a shame that Camp's form has capitulated so dramatically in recent months. Without Smith as an option we will either have to fast-track Darlow into the team or buy a replacement in January :(
