Glad to see our best centre back is staying with us. 8)

Agreed.

Wes has had a handful of dodgy moments over the years, but seems to get better and more consistent with every season.

Does Billy read LTLF? There is another thread where people were pointing out that we needed to sort out a contract for Wes ASAP and next thing its done!

Nice one!

Wes will be pissed when he hears Chelsea had a bid ready but pulled out because of this.

I breathed an audible sigh of relief after reading this.

I think we can now safely say that Saunders is an idiot.

Long live King Wesley!

The jury is still out for me I'm afraid.

What a legend Wes has become for his approach to the game, but my bollocks still shrink every time he and smith have to deal with a lose ball going towards goal. Preston's goal the other night was painfully easy to have defended as well, just take a step back, jump and nod it away. Not saying I could have done it, but I'm not a professional footballer! Also his comedy runs up field are great fun I agree, but they often culminate in him ballooning it out for a throw, or losing the ball, but everyone forgets that cos theyve had such fun watching the spectacle. His ability with the ball is extremely limited and he, along with Wilson, need to pass it to a midfield player who can play more often than they do.

So yes, I'm glad to have him on board at the moment because he's playing ok, he's a beast of a man and he's definitly in the top 2 centre halves, but I'd certainly be looking at a more gifted central defender or two if I was Mr. Davies.

I love it when Wes goes on his storming runs.

We played a home game recently where he took it past about 5 players, all the way to the edge of the box and was then tripped because he couldn't be stopped any other way.

Good solid centre-back, 100% happy that he's signed a new contract. Go on Wes.

Actually he's quite skillfull and good on the ball. Every one just forgets that because of the comedy value of him barreling forward terrifying the opposition.

Apparently he was to blame for Prestons goal.

Yes, I love them too. But I think it's often more luck than judgement. Ideally you don't want to see your centre half lumbering up the pitch leaving a great hole at the back, unless he's Rio Ferdinand and there's a possibility he might actually score. As I recall Wes has never actually troubled the keeper, or set up a goal in his (comendable) endeavours.

And what's more his technique for kicking and heading the ball is very poor.

Didn't he nearly set up a goal against derby in the FA cup defeat ?

I nearly got to work on time today.

Not his fault that the player missed , is it ? Set up for him nicely by Morgan. Just saying that Morgan does provide a bit of threat up front hence why maybe Billy keeps putting him in attack in the last couple of minutes. Wes has a physical presence.

Once again the board do something good for the club by getting big Wes to sign a big contract and I come on here and what predictably is being said?

Well done Billy!?!?!

Well done to the board I say. Admittedly Billy might have said to them Wes deserves a new contract or they asked him if he was in the long term plans and he said yes but how much does he really have to do with it?

I'll give Billy or anyone else full credit when they've done the hardwork but this should really be a well done to MA and ND shouldn't it?

I notice they didn't get much credit for McSheffery or Osbourne either.

I'm sure we'll be talking about them when things are going bad again though.

Billy got the board to commit to the players whereas in the past , as we have seen over the years , the board will always delay any new contract signing to the end of the season because they do not know what division we are in and this season is no exception seeing as we could still go down.

So why did the board change its policy ? It can only be the manager that persuade them to change it.
