Went to Peterborough - Now bring back terracing!

Hi

I went to the Peterborough game on Saturday and thought it was great to be back on the terracing again!

Cheap ticket at £17 and the best atmosphere among the Forest fans for many years! Loved the pandemonium when we scored too! It was a breath of fresh air in comparison to stale seating areas.

Now is surely the time to re-introduce small well stewarded sections of terracing to grounds. I could see this being achieved in the lower Trent End or Bridgford End fairly easily.

Any thoughts?

I hope safe standing gets its opportunity in this country, as the Bundesliga has proved, it works and creates a better atmosphere, but returning to sh!t holes of stands like the one we witnessed on Saturday would be a backward step in my eyes.

Good atmospheres surely don't have to go hand in hand with being crammed into shed like stands do they?

I do enjoy terraces but the lack of organisation at peterborough has convinced me that unless we introduce the safe style terracing as used in germany Id rather keep all seater stadiums tbh.

I agree that the actual stand at Peterborough was old fashioned but you cannot deny that the match experience in terms of atmosphere was so much better.

A modern standing area akin to those in the Budesliga would obviously be better.

I say this as someone who was at Hillsborough

I would quite happily pay more to stand to cover any cost of police/stewards.
Would love the lower Trent end to be converted to terracing it would give the cg such an atmosphere
Will never happen but you can dream!

the atmoshpere was awesome I will give you that and having free movement to truly go mental when we scored was great fun, we had some great terraces which where torn down in favour of all seater stadiums as they where unsafe. yet we are still standing in these small shit holes 20 years later, if they where truely unsafe then we would of had them closed down years ago.

it will only take one club to try safe style teracing and then they will all be at it, I dont think it will be far off with the way the premier league is all greed for cash If the can get the attendances up by getting more people in by taking seats out then they will find a way to do it

Yep it's the Westfalen Stadion home of Borussia Dortmund

The end pictured holds a staggering 25,000 standing fans!!!

To the guy that enjoys sitting - I wish everyone had the option to sit OR stand!

I would happily pay £10 more for a ticket to stand on a terrace, provided that terrace had a decent standard/amount of stewards.

Most of saturdays mess was people not used to standing and stewards looking completely out of their depth.

I have never watched football from a terrace before yet the thought of being squashed in between a group of men could go either way.

Thinking body heat, I bet it's warmer on a blistering cold day in January. :brr:

I think I'm right in saying that that stand is the largest 'behind goal' stand in the world.

The overall attendance on sat was 12000 with a third of the fans packed into one stand. It was fun but possibly not something I'd want to do each week. Would be nice to have the choice though

I could do that every time I go if it was :

A: a better stand.
B: better organised.
C: AT THE CITY GROUND

I didnt like it to be honest... rubbish view when you have a giant infront of you.

Yeah I agree. I'm not the tallest of people so when a giant stands in front I had no chance.

Part of the fun of terracing was being there, in the crowd, singing, chanting, flag waving, banner displaying, scarf twirling. Seeing the game was almost secondary. If you wanted a view you went in the main stand or executive stand.

When you go to a gig its the same - the feeling of being in the crowd in a gig at a venue like Rock City far outweighs being able to actually see the band at a sterile environment like an arena or stadium. Can you imagine going back to 1976 and sitting down to watch the Sex Pistols*? It'd be shite.

*unlike others my age I make no claim to have seen the Sex Pistols in 1976 and I definately wasn't at the famous gig at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1976.

Wouldn't my feet hurt after 2 hours?

What about the horror story in "Provided You Don't Kiss Me" where somebody pisses down the back of his leg in a terrace because he's full of beer and stuck there.

The law is ridicules anyway, if this is genuinely all about safety. Then you shouldn't be able to stand to watch other sports, Concerts etc. As ive said before you have the ridicules situation at Meadow Lane where on a Saturday if you stand in front of your seat watching the Football Team your breaking the law however if you stand in front of your seat on the Sunday watching the Rugby your not. It should be one rule for all.

I can't see anything wrong with the comprimise situation with safe standing ala Germany. This clearly works but isn't a return to the old style terraces of the past. People should have the choice, if you still wish to sit then do so but those who wish to stand should have a safe standing area to exercise that choice. It would also get rid of this crazy stewards v fans confrontations which take place up and down the country every weekend over people standing. The authorities themselves acknowledge its a battle their losing so time for a comprimise
