Well done Doughty & Billy

I believe that we will escape relegation this season yet the realistic part of me is still nervous that the worst could still happen.

I think the management and team collectively have all played a part in our recent fight for survival. There are many contributory factors but in the main part, I hold Billy responsible for our position. My main reasoning being that I doubt we would find ourselves in the same position had Billy not joined us.

I will hold off my congratulations until May 3rd but the jiggling is bubbling inside me already.

It wasnt one of those comments. While I thought it was a good appointment, I just wondered how people felt now. Its not a case of, "look at me I knew I was right." After the initial split between Forest fans over the appointment, Im curious more than anything to know if the camp who didnt welcome it have warmed to him. It certainly seems so. But if we're going to have a thread on praising Billy, why not discuss the change in opinions on him.

I'm just looking forward to next season, and cant wait to get this one finished...

No, I didn't read your comments like that (hence qualifying mine as such), I was just waiting for the thread to descend into it :)

Absolutely legitimate thread, wasn't suggesting otherwise :)

Billy has been the man right from the word go.

Although some were doubting his credentials, and history, I was just happy that we were targeting a manager with a history of success, that is still young and hungry for success, and someone that knew what it takes to get into the Premiership. Not only this, but from his past experiences, he is more likely to know what is needed to survive in the Premiership, also, and would therefore make the plans of the club more likely to be successful.

When I heard that he had been in ?Spain during a summer camp with ?Barca/RMadrid I was really impressed.

Hes completed transformed this club in such a short space of time: different training methods, different, more experienced players, and, as stated in a NEP article today, he knows how to win games and secure 1-0 victory via "tricks of the trade".

I can't wait for next season when he really does get the chance to build his own team. This club has a bright future.

He is the perfect signing. Davies said from the start we needed a target man and it looks like we got him just in time.

I think that had we got a target man in january (along with a few others of course) we may well be safe by now.

I was dead against appointing Davies. The more I think about it the more I wonder why!!

When he was appointed though I decided to hold my tounge and look on the bright side of it. I realised that regardless of his roots at Derby and the on goings of their premiership disaster he was a proven, expierenced, successful manager at this level who's record speaks for itself. I was impressed in his press conference he said about how there were no pointless signings to be made and how he wanted to take this club places and that he intended to do that.

Throughout all our rough patches he has faced the media and been brutally honest (to the displeasure of a minority) he knows what he needs to change and he makes that clear to the fans and he has somehow turned this youthful, losing squad into mature winners and in such a short space of time that is an immense acheivement by anyones standards. Players like Wes, Ando, McCleary, Cohen, McGugan even Tyson have improved drastically under Davies. He is completely different to the manager I thought he was and ND in my eyes has finally appointed a top class manager we need.

*That* is the biggest difference to me throughout the season; in the last few matches, we have really looked like a *team* rather than eleven individuals, which is what we tended to do under our former Manager.

Regardless of where we finish - and I'm cautiously optimistic we will stay up - the biggest plus from Billy's (so far) short reign has been the improvement in the tactics and performance of the team (those who have been here all season primarily).

FOND was the first, but there was definitely a 'splinter group' called DOUT a few weeks after Davies took the helm Davies OUT was its main policy I believe.

I'm happy to admit I didn't want Davies, and I'm also happy to admit I was very wrong.

I thought he'd want to bring in god awful, prehistoric players and I thought he'd play 5 at the back and hoof it for 90 minutes, just like Muggleson. He hasn't done any of the sort, the morale at the club looks good, no players have been alienated at all (remember all those Rob Earnshaw worries?).

And I'm not just saying that now we're nearly safe. If the unthinkable happens and we lose the next two and go down, I stand by my support for Davies appointment. He recognised pretty much every weak link in the team and has gone about replacing them with very impressive players, and playing in a decent fashion. For this alone I back what he's tried to do, regardless of the outcome at the end of the season.

Also at crucial points, Billy has taken the pressure off the players and put it onto himself. Then the team went out and played some decent football.
