WE WERE WRONG

Like most, including Nigel Doughty, my patience with CC disappeared on boxing day.
Until then I generally supported keeping him.
Many and sometimes most agreed with this, including Nigel Doughty.
We cited continuity, stability, attractive football, CC's amiable personality, previous promotion etc. etc.

WE WERE WRONG

CC had 25 championship games and 4 wins
Since his removal we have had 4 games and 4 wins ( and FA cup win and draw to boot )
Confidence has been restored.

From now on I vow never to accept mediocrity within this football club again.

It looks like the right decision,I think he may have kept us up still,we will never know. It's best to be cautious and I think a thread like this is a bit premature because we are merely experiencing the new manager honeymoon period at the moment.Let's hope Davies can sustain it,we are far from safe remeber

I just hope the positivity around Forest will last through February and March, which will become a real challenge for the team!
A few defeats will come, and I just hope the fans will continue to stay positive! It helps!

Just a reminder........after 29 games last season Leicester were in 17th place with 34 points and a GD of Minus 1.

Nothing is in the bag yet!

I think we were wrong, is showing the most wonderful invention called Hindsight.

Forest have visited the utter and complete doldrums, both on and off the pitch, no matter how loud collectively we could have howled, nothing would have been changed, slowly, oh so slowly the sinking ship has had the underwater damage plugged, then repaired. The good ship Forest was relaunched, quietly, without fuss and no real date of launch to celebrate.

The ship sailed slowly on, until now, with a new Captain at the helm, things are seemingly on the up, but this has not happened overnight, so we were not wrong, in the main our patience and support seems to have been rewarded, even if Captain Davies is asking for a little more patience and understanding from us.

As we progress forward, that is far easier to display, rather than recall the nightmares over the past years.............5-0 Oldham etc etc, all part of the painful lengthy healing process.

It's far too early to judge whether changing the manager was a good thing. A change of personnel almost always* brings about a change of fortunes. Look at Spurs under Redknapp - he got some great results in his first few games but now they are back to being shit and losing to Burnley. Same with Kinnear at Newcastle. The real proof of the wisdom of sacking Cadlerwood and getting Billy Davies will in the long-run. Personally I think the change was probably becoming necessary to kick start our season (too many must-win games went by without wins), but we could have sacked Colin Calderwood and replaced him with Colin Calderwood and still got the last four results.

* With the obvious exception of Derby lol

I almost totally agree.

I was borderline on the CC in camp, although his inability to see how badly we missed Breckin riled me more by the week. But I think I was wrong about Davies. It's easy to say that following 4 wins, but he seems a much more admirable man than I gave him credit for, and after the Megson saga when it was so dire I nearly lost all faith, I thought that might happen all over again.

As for this vowing never to accept mediocrity again, I think thats a ridiculous stance. On that school of thought you wouldn't have 'accepted' Doughty or Calderwood staying here after the play off defeat to Yeovil, you might have participated in one of those cringeworthy car park protests. And we might well be where Leeds are now.

That people can still offer tacit support for Clueless is laughable! I even saw somebody of the Post website warning against Davies wrecking the side the Clueless had built! We'd still have won the league with him in charge ... but now we'll never know LOL If we'd not changed we'd have been down with Charlton, remember 25 games with 21 points and now we're 4 games with 12. We're still not safe because of the tiny squad that makes every injury an injury crisis coupled with a lack of experience - that is either the past manager or the "transfer board" and the manager not making his point. Seeing as how Clueless always said he wanted a compact squad of around 15 you cannot help but lay blame at his door.

That really bugged me, The comments about Calderwood wanting a really compact squad! It was MArthur that said that wasn't it?

In Colin Calderwoods favour is his eye for talent, I really do not think he had a bad buy at the CG, BUT tactically, well we have been there before, but not all bad.

I think we were wrong. It was a Thursday and he looked ridiculous in that bra. The hamster was already dead and the KFC was closed.

Did I want Calderwood out? Not really

Was I happy when he went? No, I felt awful for him. I wasn't surprised though.

Do I wish he'd been kept on? Not with hindsight, no

Did I want Davies? Not in the slightest

What do I think now? I think ignoring the results which are inevitably decent for a honeymoon, he's impressed me greatly - cracking down on training, expecting the fans and players alike to exercise a little common sense - he's improved communication no end, and that's what the club needed. Let us not forget he's hardly rushed to improve or at least temporarily bolster Calderwood's squad at all, in spite of injuries. This shows Calderwood had the vision to assemble a cracking young squad for future glory (or respectability would suffice, to be honest) yet lacked the insight and charisma to get the required out of fans and players alike. CC was too deep into his own creation to see what was wrong. Davies has sauntered along and sussed the issues very quickly. For whatever reason, he obviously doesn't see the need to get in anyone and says volumes about his opinion of Calderwood's buying decisions. Wait until he gets his hands on the Moose and Bennet!

I still don't think we'll win tomorrow, but I fancy us for a bit of a surge once one or two faces are back. How much have we picked up in the last ten games in the last couple of seasons? Either we'll do that again, or we won't need to, to be cheerful.

And with a league this tight, all we have to do to achieve that is focus on pulling away form the mire, which is what we are doing. The team which flees relegation most vocieferously usually end up champions in any given season. We're nowhere near there but we're a f*** sight closer than we were a month ago.

Results aside, does anyone get a sense that things are eing 'done properly' at our club for once, early days or not?

We are nowhere safe as yet , the worrying signs are there that Billy new manager honeymoon period might come to an end soon enough. We have started and played badly for the last 2 games now and only our in-form strikers have saved us while our own team's momentum have kept us going so far.

It was time for CC to go certainly and while Billy has certainly talk a good game , he has yet to rectify anything . A couple of defeats and we'll be right back staring at the abyss again. Next month is very crucial , even discounting our cup exploits as we are facing a lot of tough league games but as yet , Billy has not add anyone to our squad. If we stick with our currently injury plagued skeleton crew , we could be looking at a month where everything falls apart in the cup and league.

He's rectified the losing even though we play well, the losing against ten men and the losing automatically when we are shit. Most importantly he's recitfied the issue of the fan's attitude.

Talking about the team side , we still have Chambers at right back , we still have problems down our left , Perch is still playing in midfield , all things that we fans moaned at CC for not taking note.

I never boo or loudly criticise as I've said and explained on this forum on countless occasions.

However, our group of 6 who sit in the Upper TE wanted him gone some time ago. It wasn't so much that the players he got into the club were not up to it, it was the way he played them and possibly how he motivated them. CC made some stupid formation changes, sometimes during the game - put the side under unnecessary extra pressure. I was torn between wanting the Reds to win and wanting them to go on a losing run to force CC out - a ridiculous situation for a fan. He was a nice guy but didn't endear himself to many of the fans by his tactics.

Davies might not have to do much different except motivate the players in a different way and not make so many strange decisions during matches. I think we may see Chambers and others reach their potential now. Remember, and I know he's not BC, when Clough came to Forest we had huge potential - some very good players - it was Clough who got O'Neil, Robbo, Bowyer, Woodcock, Anderson to play consistently well. We were in the lower reaches of the 2nd division and yet these players WON THE 1st DIVISION TITLE! We'd also got some other players on the fringe who needed the Clough magic. Davies might just be the man to provide this spark. By the way, it's nice to see a manager get to grips with the players from the touchline.
Platt? Lucky to see him move.

No it was CC, early and often since. And the squad being talented and great buys is another misleading idea. We aren't good enough with what we have, we all know it, crikey we've all had to watch it lol. I think today was a hard lesson in that if anybody is under the illusion that CC built a team/squad capable of mixing it in the championship. It was never just the tactics, but the transfer policy and I take that right back to the first Jan he led us through. Since then there have been holes to fill that haven't been. It's all gone now though and on to the future. We need some players in and fast. Just players to challenge for a first team place would be a benefit, but not enough you'd think. Come on you Reds!!!!!!!
