We need to play Southampton FC

Morning all,

When news of Southampton were stuggling financially I'm sure a lot of you alongside me were hoping they went out of business and lost 10 points to help Forest survive.

I sincerely hope Southampton FC do not go out of business... and it's not because I particularly care about them either.

The reason being is if we take the Championship table as it stands:

17 Derby 42 -8 51
18 Blackpool 43 -12 51
19 Plymouth 43 -9 50
20 Norwich 43 -8 46
21 Barnsley 42 -14 46

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22 Nottm Forest 43 -18 46
23 Southampton 43 -19 44
24 Charlton 42 -23 34

If Southampton went bust and dropped out the league all there results would be taken out of the Championship and everyones points in the league would be re-adjusted depending how they did against Southampton.

Forest beat Southampton so we'd lose 3 points.
Barnsley drew AND lost to Southampton, so would lose only 1 point.
Norwich drew AND lost to Southampton, so would lose only 1 point.

Until we kick off against Southampton on 3rd May, I'm going to be very nervous...

They won't go out of business before the end of the season, trust me, too many interested parties for that to happen and the players are still being paid, which means there is still money there...

It's only the parent company which is struggling financially. There's no problem with the finances of the football club whatsoever. :durr:

Maybe the parent company could field 11 of it's employees for the remaining fixtures?

Southampton FC Holdings PLC is comprised of the club, the stadium, the youth academy lodge (i.e. player digs) and a small amount of real estate. There's no way that they can avoid the 10 point deduction, the FA is just hoping that they go down anyway so it won't matter.

We will not fold, the club said when this first came out that they will not put the Nottm Forest tickets on sale until its certain we can last that long. Our tickets went on sale the other day. So you have nothing to worry about.

With the 10 point deduction, I personally think it is wrong if we avoid it aswell. I can't see us avoiding it but I just hope to god that we don't win 3 out of 3, stay up but then get a points deduction.

Yep, and I could see the club trying to get some sort of money from the FL or club that stays up because of it.

Surely it would make a difference in the long run, as it would put them on minus 10 at the start of their league 1 season and so would help other clubs pushing for promotion, similar to Leeds last season.

Football League rules state that if the team in administration would be relegated anyway the points deduction has to be imposed immediately and can't be carried over to the following season.

Thus they avoid any further Leeds-style sagas.

If the Football League impose Saints with a 10 point penalty then the penalty is suspended until the end of the season.

- If they subsequently stay up, the 10 pts will be deducted from their final total, almost certainly relegating them.

- If they go down, they'll start next season on -10.

Leeds starting on -15 had nothing to do with going into administration.

Not totally true. Dirty Leeds went into administration but were almost immediately bought back out by everyones favourite chairman Ken Bates. Being the conniving f***er that he is, he failed to agree a Company Voluntary Arrangement to pay off an acceptable amount of their debts to creditors. As a result, this left alot of debtors in serious financial trouble, whilst Dirty Leeds were allowed to carry on as a solvent entity as if nothing had ever happened.

Leeds, being Leeds, saw nothing wrong in this.

Fortunately, the Football League begged to differ and were initially set to ban Dirty Leeds from their competition. Unfortunately for football, they then relented and slapped on a 10 pt pen for the administration and an additional 5pts for being dirty, cheating bastards.

Exactly, the -15 wasn't for going into administration, it was for the way in which they came out of administration.

They'd already had the -10 for administration the season before, when they found the loophole with regards to taking the hit whilst already (albeit not mathematically) relegated.

The -15 was a punishment the FL essentially made up, for the crooked way Bates exited admin.

Luton (-20), Rotherham (-17) and Bournemouth (-17) were all similarly punished this season for a lack of CVA, despite already recieving a ten point penalty for falling into admin last season.
