We are still a big club

Well according to Chris Gunter

defender Chris Gunter won't rule out returning to Nottingham Forest next season.

He said: "I have been told that the manager [Harry Redknapp] does not want to sell me and another loan move would be good for me. If that is what happens it would be fine by me. I have had two managers already at Spurs with different ideas and coaching methods.

"But never in my career have I had a run of 20 or more games on the spin, or even played a 50-game season. So I need to go out on loan to learn my trade, how to play a consistent amount of games. It worked well for me at Nottingham Forest and, if someone said I was going back there for a season, I would be happy with that."

He added: "The set-up was impressive, Forest are a big club with crowds of 26,000 most weeks. The manager there [Billy Davies] was good and I really enjoyed playing there.

"Everyone knows they used to be a big club but I discovered that they still are. In my second away game with them, they took 6,000 fans to Barnsley and that doesn't happen in the Championship. It is all there for them to go as high as they want. And they gave me a good spell to progress from.

"I still have two years left at Spurs, the manager has not said I have a future or not because you have to prove that to him and I intend to do so. But I need to know definitely soon where I will be next season and then concentrate on giving my best to whoever I join and see where we go from there."

I still enjoyed reading it again. Also, I like to HEAR that we're a big club and as a matter of self-respect, I do think it's important for other people to think it.

weve never really been a 'big' club

Alex Ferguson said Man Utd would never be considered a great club until they'd retained the European Cup

Two stars on our shirts says YOU'RE WRONG

So the richest team in the world aren't a big club?

We beat Malmo (who) in one final and Hamburg in the other.

No Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Ajax, Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich...

As far as I am aware we did not meet any of these teams in our two European Cup runs. Please feel free to correct me when I am wrong, as I normally am.

Two stars says we've won the european cup twice - 79 and 80

That doesnt mean we're a big club, a fantastic club yes.

I was being purposely provocative, however, there is some truth in what I am saying.

Clearly, no one will ever replicate what Cloughie did. However, he did it with a small club...us, and in a time when money did not quite rule as strongly as it did back then.

Using Alex Ferguson's definition of great clubs again, because it is fantastically skewed to support my post.
The great clubs are Real Madrid, Benfica, Inter Milan, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Forest and AC Milan.
We took 2 of the other 7 great clubs out in order to retain the European cup.
If you want to measure a club by how much money it has feel free to do so and add Man City to your list.
Like many things in life, It's not how much you have but how you use it that counts. :)

forest are not a big club, in fact i would say we are a small club.

in the late seventies our best era, our crowds were small, and away followings pitiful at times.

in fact our crowds now are comparable.

considering the size of nottingham, we still fall thousands short of derby's following, why? because the truth is they are a far bigger club.

we are a good club, but our following is small, always has been, always will be.
