I am endeavouring to find the names of the Goalkeepers who played for the club in the period from 1888-1899. Does anyone heve access to who made appearances for the team in that period or could you point me in the direction of where I may find such information. Thanking you in anticipation.

Ken Smales' definitive volume: "Forest: The First 125 Years" advises the following:
1887-88 season: T. H Widdowson, H. Moseley (occasionally)
1888-89: Mr. Bull, Mr. Widdowson (mostly) and for odd games: Oakley, H. Billyeald, A. Hil, W. K. Moon, Beardsley, & A. Pike.
1889-90: JH Holland (mostly), Harry Pike, A. Smith, G. Turner
1890-91: J. Cox, T. H. Widdowson, W. Brown (mostly), JH Holland
1891-92: W. Brown (mostly), Bywater, Toone, Thornhill
1892-93: W. Brown (mostly), Dennis Alsopp
1893:94: D. Alsopp (mostly), Brown
1894-95: Names not listed
1895-96: D. Alsopp (mostly), Tebbutt
1896-97: D. Alsopp (mostly), T. Martin

I wonder whether T. H. Widdowson was an ancestor of Sam Weller Widdowson
As a complete aside, I do love the way these old teams referred to players as "Mister", or just their first initial.
I can imagine Tannoy Man at the City Ground this week announcing:
"In goal for Forest, Number one - Mister Camp!"
"Number 16: Mister Moussi"
"At left-back C. Gunter"...
All we'd need would be to sign a forward called "Sitter"... Number 10 for Forest: Mister Sitter

Robbo said on Thursday that Forest won the league in 1890 something. We all turned and shook our heads and said 'No they didn't.' I suspect he was referring to 1891/2 when they won The Football Alliance. This was a separate competition to the Football League which amalgamated with it some years later.
T H Widdowson appears in the team the season after Sam Weller Widdowson - the first man to wear ship pads -retired and went on to the Forest board. I can't find any reference to them being related.
One of the first big changes Clough made was to make all the players wear shin pads. Likewise Forest were the first team to play a game under electric lights against County in the 1890s, but Billy Walker was against the introduction of floodlit games, when clubs began using them in the 1940s. Although we pioneered things, we did not necessarily follow it through.

Surely if we were in a league and won it then we won the league - irrespective of its' name at the time or subsequent merging with another one?
