Visit to A Block

Yesterday, for the first time for many years I sat in the A Block for a Forest home game. After reading so much on here about heavy handed stewards and the problems they caused, I would be fibbing If I said I did not try and take interest in the happenings around me..

I moved seats many many years ago, when I first started to take my youngsters to the odd game and to be honest had been getting bored with the moronic behaviour of some of the clientele up there, a great deal of humour had gone to replaced by what seemed naked aggression. My seat, yesterday was A3, Row B 27 and I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

The crowd around was both knowledgeable and appreciative, the enthusiasm and vocal support from A Block was top class. The humour I used to enjoy in that area seemed to be back in full voice, Adeboli clapping along to the song where it is said he is a gifted in a certain region, made me smile, the warm reception given to Forest's subs as they warmed up, was keen and obviously appreciated by the players. The general support for the side was infectious and loud.

The response by the crowd to the ''Handbags'' amongst the Reading fans was vintage, as were many of the fans around me. There appeared to be, many lads of a certain age around me, just there, to enjoy the game in a positive atmosphere. As for the wicked stewards around me, they were called into action, at the end of my row, a gentleman seemed to have been taken ill.

As for the youngsters who insisted on standing, en masse, maybe four/five rows back, the stewards seemed to be polite enough as they tried to coax them back into their seats. Maybe another day, different opponents, the atmosphere would have been warmer and the stewards needing to be more on the ball.

Yesterday it was a pleasure to sit with/In the A Block once more. I have promised myself this will not be the last time either, it also has a great view 8)

I think it's great mate and I'm glad you enjoyed it ! The knuckle draggers seem to have settled elsewhere and whilst there are a few who look the sort to nut a mirror if they looked at themselves funny, there's very much a feeling of unity in there ! I remember a few years ago when some fans kicked off at other Forest fans several times. Now I don't get any bad vibes !

I was in A Block for the Brum game and it was great! We stood all game which was also great. The only problem I had was a Steward telling me not to take photos - yet I noticed flashes going off all over the BC Stand. I did think of telling him that I had come 1000miles to watch the game but I guessed any number over 5 would be too many for him to comprehend, so I just put the camera away.
I was also asked by a blonde female steward at about 16h30 when the game would end which seemed strange as I thought she would have known.

If you take photography whilst the match is in play - its technically an infringement of copyright as the club owns the image rights who they sell to the media, who pay vast sums of money for these rights. Whilst you may not be seeking to earn money from these pictures, theres no way for the club to verify this.

However, this should only be an issue whilst the match is in progress i.e. whistle to whistle for each half.

If you're taking a photo at any other time and the steward tells you off then this is rather excessive.

I used to have my season ticket in the A-Block from 2001-2003 and loved the atmosphere. It was the only part of the ground where everyone was vocal and constantly getting behind the team and was a great experience.

There was always a battle between stewards and supporters about standing up, the stewards would go down row by row get around four rows seated before someone started singing "Stand up if you hate Derby!" causing everyone to stand up again and the whole process to start over.

I was forced to move when all U21's were banned from there, punishment for everyone following problems with a few. Sat in the Trent End ever since and it's not a patch on it.

Does the 'Bohinen' guy still go to matches? I haven't seen him in years, I remember waiting in anticipation at each game, to see what else he had added to his 'outfit'.

They were fun years in the A block.

Think I'll sit in A Block next time I come up. Been in B Block before, but never in A.

Can definitely get away with standing more frequently now.

The stewards only made everyone sit down once on Saturday, then after about 2 minutes we had an attack, and everyone stood up again.

Pre wedding plans when I had money I used to love a-block however it had started to decline, mainly due to the negativity on the pitch which spilled up into the stands.

I fully intend to have a season ticket next year and will be heading back to A-Block as it would be nice to experience and be a part of it whilst everyone is ina good mood and enjoying themselves!

:D :D :D Were you the chap I asked to swap seats with at KO?

My seat is 30, but I didn't spend all game in it.

The chap who needed medical assistance, was a mate who was pushed over in the malay when we scored and sprained his ankle.

Shame that Nige, we could have had a right old chin wag through the game.

Next time mate :D

The Bohinen guy was a real legend, me and my mates were upper bridgeford V1, and loved watching the A blocks antics!! But the bohinen man when he stood up created a great atmosphere, and V1 V2 would then join in with the songs. I was allways jealous of the A block in them days.
What did happen to him?

Re: Visit to A Block

spent most of my twenties in A block had a season ticket in there for 8 seasons after moving up from the Junior Reds.
Viking hat on with horn in hand.......bohinennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn dada da da dada da da da daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

maybe its just my Alzehimers but im sure the guy developed blonde plats at one point.

In all the seasons i spent in A Block i can only ever remeber one or two times being told to sit down in those days ...they where happy times ...

The other outstanding memories of those days was a Bob Carolgees kinda geezer, who sat on the path to B block after you have gone up the far right main stand stairway hooked another left then a right ........................ sat behind that guy for years and he was a boy!!!!

Funilly enough the forums been talking about the ,,,,, "and we all go mad when derby go down again chant ...and that the one A block chant that has stook with me for life......i never did understand those words for a few years but mumbled my way through it at the top of my voice lol

slighty off topic but does anyone remeber 'Doughnut' in the middle pen of the old Trent End .....the guy was a Legend also and wore a very fetching pink Nottingham Forest Bomber jacket???????

Re: Visit to A Block

I'm pretty sure he did sport a blonde wig a few times. He was great at getting the A block going even before he started turning into a valkyrie, and used to sing nearly the whole game.

Saw him in Auxerre in a bar, and was suprised how quiet he was!

Your going back to the early - mids 90s for him, A Blocks peak years for me. Had a right booming voice on him but like you say in person quietly spoken.

I remember doughnut well, as a young un i thought he was cool, he always got the songs started in the Trent end. As i got older though, he turned into a bit of a nob. I think he used to live in Grantham, as he was always on the same train home as me.

Re: Visit to A Block

I havent sat in A block since we beat chelsea 2-0, in early 97 i think it was. Pearce was in temporary charge then.
Matthew harding had just died in a helicopter crash earlier in the week, so the a block kept doing the dambusters music and assorted actions. i was only 14 at the time and was completely wrapped up in the whole thing. I remember a load of chelsea fans being dragged out of the ground for thier reaction.
What a game that was as well.

I loved the atmosphere there, and the closest ive come to sitting back there was b block a few times under platt (grrrr) and also b block from the pre season friendly against stoke.
I now sit lower trent with the season ticket- and the atmospheres just nowhere near.

I remember that game, and I was quite disgusted by that, and it was about this time that we decided that the humour had gone out of the A block, and it was being replaced by young idiots that just wanted to hurl abuse at the away fans, it might have been us just getting older of course. So the next season we moved to upper Bridgford, there was a small group up there that gave it a bit of atmosphere. But then along came Platt, and my twins, and out went my season ticket.
