The word ‘sacked’ has been rumbling around my head today. It has such a negative connotation - tends to imply failure, disharmony etc and it’s ubiquitous in football. And if one of us were booted from our jobs unwillingly then we’ve been sacked, or it’s a tarted up redundancy which is normally still ultimately being sacked.
But really in this instance it’s just that we’ve chosen to exercise a break in his contract and go forward with another party. I don’t like reading that we’ve ’sacked’ him - it doesn’t feel like the right word. He was brilliant.

Ange was up against it because we didn't have the resources for his style of play which wasn't very good anyway, he also wasn't given long to do any damage.
Platt was inexperienced and the club decided to allow him to spend a lot of money on shit
The other bad ones I'm ambivalent to - McLeish, McClaren, Cotterill, Hughton not really there long enough and weren't bad people just terrible managers.
He absolutely was not.
There was a contractual break-clause, which either side could have taken. Forest, did.

If you want some further context for the character of Steve McClaren, consider that he's chosen to work for Derby County on three separate occasions since he quit at Forest.
In all seriousness though, no other manager has caused me to fall out of love with football so quickly (Megson also did it, but slower).
Has it been confirmed anywhere that the clause was mutually exercisable?
Megson almost caused me to fall out of love with life, let alone football.

The football wasn't good but the signings didn't even seem like they were C-list to me given we brought in Miller, Derbyshire and Boateng. He was also shafted by us yet again not giving him a LB (and when we got anything like, it was Clint Hill who got sent back to QPR) and also Cohen getting injured. It wasn't just Verhoek which caused him to have a massive rift with Pleat and Arthur over incomings. So I have a fair amount of sympathy for the situation when he wasn't really coming into a top six team due to the key players we had also allowed to leave.
As for his working for Derby then yes he did but he is a professional football coach from North Yorkshire and he has no allegiances (if anything, Boro are his local team) to Forest. Either way, he worked for Derby before Forest, as did Billy Davies and Brian Clough amongst others. He will go to whoever will pay him to do a job. He won't be the first ex-Forest employee to work for Derby and he won't be the last.
He did at least resign rather than making the situation worse

Honestly, I'm over the moon VP has gone. I think it's a very ballsy and correct decision by the big man.
Wins against the utterly dire Burnley & Spurs and a stupendously off-form Chelsea form 3/4's of wins to keep us up, and aren't results which instill much confidence of pushing on back to Europe next year.
Kudos to VP for the job he did keeping us up, but that level of job isn't good enough for the long term and we've all been expecting a change in the Summer for months.
The king is dead long live the king.

Blimey, you're the first I've seen to go so polarised on VP. Admire your honesty mate (I don't agree though, we were insane those last few games) I suppose we'll find out if the switch was the right move this time next year

I just don't think he's anywhere near the level we want to be aiming for as a club now. Still respect him for the job he did, but we can't sit still and Marinakis was always going to go for as good a manager as possible this close season after events last year.
I'm glad we've been decisive and pro-active here, and sorted this early doors especially.
