To play devils advocate maybe the club only got confirmation around Glasner last minute - my thoughts are we gave him a deadline to make his decision (just before pre season) & it resulted in no time for pleasantries unless you wanted to pay millions more compensation.

It’s not like this rumour was rumbling on for a long time, it came out of nowhere.

But regardless even if it was done in a ruthless way, I just cannot get on board for feeling sorry for anyone in football or view there as being a classy way of sacking people. They are compensated extremely well & even Vitor himself has walked out on half his clubs in messy circumstances, in Brazil he left one to go back to Portugal & ended up at another Brazilian club a week later! He was always an interim in all but name, he’s boosted his reputation & will have the option for loads of jobs, everyone has come out the appointment better - how can you sit here feeling sorry for people?

In an ideal world this wouldn't have happened the way it looks like it did. But EM would have been foolish to pass on a manager of Glasner's stature and, most importantly, Premier League experience.

With the previous two managers (before VP) we've hoped that they had shown the ability to learn from their mistakes and adapt. With AP- he obviously had shown no inclination at all to change what had gone wrong at Spurs (in fact, he seemed to just be on a mission to repeat it all- presumably to show Spurs they were wrong- he certainly didn't appear to give a stuff about Forest). With SD we all wanted to believe that Everton and Burnley only played such dismal football because of the limitations imposed on the manager and with better players he'd be a better manager. This proved to be wishful thinking.

With VP- we know he's got a huge propensity for good starts and then it all blows up. The chances are that VP too would not have deviated from the mean and we'd be in a position, come Christmas, of needing a manager with no suitable replacement available.

Despite the short-term shock, Glasner's appointment might provide the longer-term (I'd like to say long-term, but that's not gonna happen 🤷‍♂️) stability.

I appreciate the comments regarding VP's financial well being easing the pain of the sacking, but for me it's more about killing what was definitely a "fit" with him and the club, players, us. That's extremely difficult to find and is priceless really. OG may be a far better Manager on paper but there are no guarantees. I thought VP earned the right to have a full season and a say in transfers but our overlord decided to roll the dice, again..... I'll miss him and wish him all the best, all aboard, we're off again...

We’ll never know how things were communicated to Vitor so it’s difficult to have an opinion on it. Marinakis has been caricatured by the press so there’s every chance the story has been fabricated or contorted.

I hope Vitor was treated with class and well rewarded, as that’s what he deserved. Like Dyche, he seems very magnanimous about things having left.

Putting aside the communication, if we are getting Glasner I do think it’s an upgrade and something we had to do. No guarantees though of course!

Having slept on this it makes a lot of sense. We blew a lot of money last year to (so far) go backwards. That picture may evolve of course, but on the face of it we’re about to have another summer with a 9 figure pot of money that needs to be well invested and managed in. Screw it up twice and we could well implode over the next few seasons.

We’ve all loved VP, but we know and EM will also know that the question marks over him are that he’s not reliable in the long term and that he was heavily implicated in Wolves’ poor use of funds last summer that subsequently sent them down. Those signals are too risky for any leader of an organisation to ignore, given where we are and how vital this summer’s activity is, and given the availability of a high level manager who doesn’t come with those caveats.

VP is a victim of circumstance, and it’s a real shame, but I think EM has done his job exactly right here. He’s made the tough choice without emotion.

Almost certainly the case.

I don't think we've umm'd and arr'd about whether to bring in Glasner or not over the last month. We'll have made that decision before the last ball of the season was kicked 2 months ago.

We've probably been having informal talks with him for a while, but hadn't been given confirmation until a couple of days ago that Glasner would actually take Forest on.

It's also likely June 30 was when his contract ended so we might have had to pay Palace compensation if we hired him before then.

They may have scouted him out, see if he was interested, then when he said he was but they had to wait until his deal was up, kept hold of VP but didn't do any contract talks (which were stopped), at that point the writing was probably on the wall they were getting rid if they had a better option.

Then when the option comes in VP's contract and they basically have the yes from Glasner then they do it.

If they've wanted Glasner for a few years then they have had to wait, it is likely the clause also meant they knew there could be the possibility of a change in the summer, a bit like when they wanted Lamouchi but went for O'Neill instead.

The funny thing is, would you put it beyond VP still rocking up at one of the big fellas clubs again in the future? I certainly wouldn't. They've danced this tune before with each other.

It’s OK to accept he’s spent a lot of money here but he’s also a nasty piece of work too.

What do you want to come from that collective conclusion though? Where does it leave the club if we have an owner we all agree to actively detest? Where do we go from there?

And while I’m here, tell me to do one by all means… but have you gone by another name on this forum before? I feel like I recognise the style...

We should know by now that if the club think a better manager is available we will make a move. We’re not always right but on paper Glasner is a big step up.

Vitor did well to keep us up but he’s a firefighter, he only wins games at the arse end of the season in the PL. I’m sure someone struggling in March will ring him if he’s not sunning it up in Saudi counting his blood money from one if the ‘big’ teams over there.

EM wants to win something so he’s hired someone who’s won domestic trophies in England and a European trophy with Frankfurt and Palace. If Leeds hired him this forum would be full of people whinging that we didn’t make a move. I think we’ll do well this season now anyway.

Yeah I don’t think they’ll be any bad blood, VP comes across as someone who just gets on with life. Sounds like he’d get a fortune to go to Saudi again, so the initial surprise will pass quickly.

He doesn't do failure, He rewards success massively and reacts to failure badly. It's partly how he's amassed a £7bn fortune. He's promised us silverware and will not suffer any fools who get in the way of that. I would imagine there is zero nastiness or any other emotion involved, it's business, end of.

One would hope the late email was formal notification and that there would have at least been a discussion earlier than that.

Either way, our businessman owner made a businessman move, to save his business (our club) from an avoidable payoff.

Love Vitor and very much appreciate what he did for us but time moves fast in football.

Exactly, no one knows what conversations were had prior to the 1158 email, I imagine it didn’t come as a surprise to vp.
