SOUTHAMPTON MAJOR DEFIANT
In what will go down as a disastrous week in the history of the City of Southampton, a week which sees the very real possibility of Southampton Football Club fading into extinction should ballerina Wayne Sleep's rescue package fall through, the Lord Mayor of Southampton, Dursley Slipknot, remained defiant and proud in his defence of the city.
"This is a great city to live in," he announced. "And a great city to visit. Fair enough, our football team are going through a bit of a lean spell at the moment, I'll concede that. But I prefer to concentrate on the positives. We're the home port of the QM2. We have the beautiful Fawley oil refinery. And mud flats. And a couple of bridges. Not to mention motorway access..."
"What about the Saints?" a heckler called out.
"There's a Premier League Club just down the road at Portsmouth," the Mayor countered to a chorus of boos. "And we have excellent rail links with London".
"BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SAINTS???" shout the whole crowd.
"Football is not the be all and end all of everything" replies the major, to more boos. "We've got a new Ikea megastore that has freebies and flat pack furniture. Surely that's a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Ikea have invested millions in our city. I suggest we close the club down and relocate nearby with a new name which will have a bit of glourious history attached to it."
"LIKE WHAT?" shouts the crowd.
The Major replies, "The NEW Forest".

The people populating the away end that day are the true fans of the club, who can be bothered with a 360 mile round trip to a game with no meaning what so ever and will, I'm sure, be already looking at how to get to the likes of Hartlepool and Carlisle next season.
We have been in their position and none of us liked it, but we also understood that who ever we played, how ever low down the league pyramid it was, all we wanted to do was support our team.
I'm sure positive it won't happen, but wouldn't it be refreshing to sing "You're coming straight back up..." to them instead of the usual b*****ks dished out to already relegated teams... It might just make the match report. :wink:

Stop being so f---ing nasty some of you. Sure, if it was us or them, then we'd be 100% Forest, but it isn't. They are humiliated, similar to how we were but with extinction a real possibility. How do they feel? A few sympathetic chants for their team wouldn't hurt, just before we tear them to pieces on the pitch.
