upturn from last season

The one thing that stands out for me and I feel is the reason we are so much better than last season is the way we retain possesion when attacking. Last season we conceeded so many goals through being counter attacked but this season, with the introduction of McKenna and in the last few games with Moussi playing our ball retention both home and away cuts out other teams counter attacks. This is taking strain off the defence and means teams (Cardiff, Newcastle, two strong championship sides) were reduced to lumping high balls forward thus making it a bit easier for ourselves. I watch Newcastle Sheff utd on monday night and Newcastle were playing some nice (ish) football which indicates I feel that we stopped them playing how they like.

what do other people think is the reason we have seen such a huge upturn from last season??? purely on a playing side of things though.

Newcastle have been playing hoof ball all season.

They have Andy Carroll, Marlon Harewood and Nile Ranger as their current 1st choice strikers, as well as Kevin Nolan just in behind.

Not the smallest bunch, eh?
