Update on Lee Camp

I have no interest in winding anybody up, this is 100% genuine despite how it may look to the more suspicious among us. Anyway, on Saturday my old man went to pride Park, something to do with the unveiling of a statue, whilst he was there he met Lee Camps dad and they started to chat. apparently Camp is being treated really badly at QPR and didn't even travel with the squad on Saturday to Derby. Camps dad went onto say that Lee even as to train with the youth team at Rangers, when my old man said that he was a Forest fan and that he'd love to have Camp at Forest Lees dad replied that Camp will be at Forest for talks this week. Apparently there is no problem between Campy and Davies at all, the problem is over the length of Camps current contract, the transfer fee (because of that contract) and Camps wages (he's a big earner at QPR).

Get in!

fantastic news if its true. would have 2 great goalkeepers.

pity we cant have rotating subs.

just bring camp on for corners and penaltys.

Problem is that Camp would probably want to be assured that he is 1st choice and I can't see Billy dropping Smith at the moment.

If this is honest then fantastic news. I've no problems with Smithy, but having both at the club would be fantastic.

Good point, i have known about this story since Saturday night but i have only just posted it (and i almost didn't).
One reason was because of Paul Smith, i like and rate Smithy alot but on the other hand every club needs to capable Keepers and at the moment we have only one. Still nothing might not come of it, i'm sure theres alot to thrash out and maybe other teams are interested as well, i'm just passing on what my old man said to me (and i've no reason to doubt him!).

Great news. the story i have heard from a derby season ticket holder is that camps problems at der started when a family member maybe his dad i cant remember tbh phoned a football phone in on radio derby and complained directly to the club about his lack of first team football because of the other keepers they had at the time. apparently after this he didn't play again but i think that was mainly due to the board.

not sure how much if any is true.

will be great to see him back at the club though hope what his dad said about talks is true :)

Absolutely agree, I regularly defend Smithy against some of the more deluded on here - but only a fool would turn down the opportunity to have either a decent backup, or potentially a better option (whether that be individually or as part of the team).

Can't wait for any official announcements (that includes the words of Capello ;D) to be made about this, if its true.

I imagine that Davies is not a man to be challenged and took issue at being challenged publicly. However he does not strike me as a guy to bear grudges and has shown that with Earnie so why not welcome back Camp. He knows he is a good keeper, he knows he is popular so all round is good for him as well.

I'd much rather we had a left back come in. Apart from that the squad is looking pretty good. Especially when Moussi is back.

Even if Smith gets injured the league would allow an emergency loan signing.

Camp is a good earner at QPR and wouldn't want to be a number 2. Id rather we carry on with Smith.

3 clean sheets in a row. The most clean sheets in the league last year. Tightest defence in the league last year and still people complain about him like he is some sort of dodgy keeper.

He makes at least one great save every game and there were several Camp conceeded that Smith would have saved.

Camp did well here but Smith is better.

Transfer fee and wages , 2 stumbling blocks as well as of course, the assured no.1 spot. I still believe Davies will likely go for Bywater than Camp - will be cheaper and Davies knows him very well.

It would probably be a good public relations exercise too, knowing how high most of the fans hold Campy... All sounds good. BTW I have a long winded report in my mind, just being a bit lazy to type it. lol

What is ruling on emergency keepers? We obviously do have reserve keepers but not experienced ones.

I have no favourite between the 2, however Camp did seem to bring some command and confidence back into a shell shocked defence. Maybe that would have come with Smith who knows?

No doubt some would also argue that Camp made saves that Smith could not. Either way, he was involved at a time when the tide started to turn so is very popular and some people liked his more vocal style. I personally would be happy with either at this level. Last years tight defence does not hold as an argument in this league after all basically the same defence got us into the shit that they are now getting us out of!! Its all about confidence really isn't it?

It's not a question of wanting backup or not, it's a question of whether we lose Paul Smith for good. Both Lee Camp and Smith are experienced pros who will not be happy to sit in the reserves and, as someone pointed out, it's not a position that can be rotated easily. I would like to see a young keeper with good potential keeping Smith on his toes, but at the same time we need a sense of stability. If Camp comes back in I'm certain that Smith will not stay with us for very long.

Fair point about the Championship being a higher level, I was just making the point that people seem to think Smith is a liability and they have no reason to. He has been a good keeper throughout his Forest career.

As you say people can argue for and against the two all day long and I am a big fan of both.

My main point is that Smith is better than people make out and the money would be better spent elsewhere.

He is a very capable keeper and dosn't need replacing.

3 clean sheets does not always tell the full picture. I would not be remotely surprised if Smith's form turns sour again within a few weeks. Do not forget some of the horrendous mistakes he has made this season.

At shot-stopping he can't be faulted but we saw the usual poor kicking and poor command vs Charlton. We were very lucky to have kept a clean sheet against this extremely poor side.

He probably cannot be dropped just yet (for the aesthetics) but I'd like to have Camp lined up as a ready replacement. Very happy about this news!

i think its unfair to say one is better than the other.

camp was refreshing when he came in, showed passion thumping his chest, shouting for the ball on crosses, commanding his area, and bowling the ball out early for the counter attack. and not to mention the wonderful penalty saves against bristol city and derby.

that said i think smith is a fantastic and much better shot stopper. I honestly think they're both equally good.

Your probably right. They probably are about equal if you take into acount their strengths and weaknesses in different areas. The fact is though you can only play one goalie. The money would be better spent elsewhere.
