Tuchel for ENGLAND! [Sponsored by Senegal fans]

I wonder what all those people who were bemoaning Southgate are saying now!
He also had his favourites who you wouldn’t want anywhere near the squad. He liked Kyle Walker at centre back and Lewis Dunk was his Dan Burn.

It seems to be a running theme with England managers over the years.

Isn’t there enough caps, experience and leadership qualities in Kane where you don’t need Jordan Henderson?

Absolutely barmy in my opinion.

It wasn’t that the players were tired and sluggish, that’s understandable, or the claim from Kane the team ‘lacked experience’, that’s just bullshit. It’s the complete lack of any coherent strategy or selection policy that is annoying.

You can’t just stick five or six roaming attacking midfielders on and expect them to hold any sort of sensible shape.

By the end I was cheering on Senegal 😆

Southgate had 4 tournaments, it was the right thing to move him on & give someone else a go with this generation of players, just a shame the guy they chose to replace him is useless!
It's strange because in club football Tuchel is actually decent and proven.

Sven, another foreign England manager, came with the same type of reputation but at least he connected to the players, on a human level and in how he wanted the team to play.

With Tuchel, I know it's early days, but I sense there is a lack of trust on both sides. He's coming out in interviews saying they aren't delivering what he wants.

I don't think they enjoy his methods. All I hear is players saying he is very demanding and intense and that's not a good sign, after Southgate who tried to be a mother to them all. To go from pampering to something else in an instant is going to be difficult.

just happy to be here
I missed the start. Did Niakhate get a round of applause?
Yes he did get some applause and a short burst of 'Mousssssssssss'.

By far the loudest chant, from the PT stand anyway, was the Morgan Gibbs-White one! Before the game, during the first half and when he came on. Must have been a proud/odd moment for him!

Fed up of England managers playing players away from their best position. MGW hasn't played left wing all season. Yes the 2nd goal was partly his fault but when's the last time you've seen him have to cover a left back like that.

Clueless.

I thought that was poor from Kane. Came across like he was trying to blame the poor performance and result on the newcomers to the squad and, in doing so, absolving him and the more experienced internationals of any blame.

Not the most inspiring Captain in the world, is he?
Can't imagine he's creating a culture of self-accountability and excellence behind the scenes to help his manager out.
You know, like a Ryan Yates does.

Agree. Especially given the reason we don't really have any other strikers with much international experience is because we have him lumbering around for 90 minutes of practically every game. Appreciate this probably isn't his decision.

People wanted Southgate gone because of the perception that his style was reserved and we were playing with the handbrake on. People thought we should be rolling over teams 3-0, 5-0 playing total football because of our 'big names'. It really doesn't work like that in international football. Truth is Southgate gave us identity and team spirit which is not an easy thing to do with the England national team. He had us punching above our weight. Finals and semis are a thing of the past now, believe. Prior to Southgate I'd lost all interest in watching England and now I'm right back there.

And yet last night alone the Dutch destroyed Malta 8-0, Denmark put 5 past Lithuania, and Austria won 0-4 at San Marino. So it often does work like that in international football.

Even under Southgate in recent seasons we've put seven past North Macedonia, six past Iran - in an actual tournament no less, and won by three, four or five against several other teams. There's a a difference between not necessarily playing with style and basic incompetence.

People wanted Southgate gone because despite having one of the most talented crop of England players in generations, he always lost to the first decent team we played in a Tournament.

ftfy.

Well, they'll be happy now that we'll lose to anyone who isn't awful in that case.

Brutal as it is, there's no glory for a team like England in exiting in the semis in international competitions.

I'd rather be knocked out in the group stages 9 times out of 10, if it meant the other time we won it.
