Nice - I was going to post it earlier but got sidetracked....

Think these boys have a lot of work to do in the summer :)

Does this mean McGugan will now be the new Reid/Commons/Smith scapegoat wise?

I'll start...

He's so fat and lazy!!! He's the reason we're not top! Lee Camp would have been much better in midfield, we'd have the league wrapped up already if we'd signed him to replace McGugan!!!

In all fairness, we've always known he was lazy on the pitch...fat or not.

Seems odd, a couple of seasons ago people said he needed to bulk up to be a good player.

Now he's done that and is being told to slim down?

Strange.

To be fair to Davies he's not having a dig a McGugan in public, or at least not explicitly.

"Lewis is a very good player but he is not fit enough yet, he carries too much weight," said Davies.

"He is a young lad and was out for ten weeks with injury. He has been asked to play game after game since then and, to be quite honest, he should not have been asked to do that.

"We know we can't work on him now as we could in the summer."

He's not being told to slim down - he's being told to train harder to improve his fitness. The two are aren't mutually inclusive.

Ah, fair enough, was just going by the comments on here.

To be fair, the article does say "he carries too much weight."

BD has said in the past McGugan lacks fitness, rather than mentioning his stomach, so I just presume he means Lewis needs to work on his stamina.

There's a difference between bulking up with muscle and bulking up with fat though :D

I don't think it's a go at Lewis being "overweight". Just an inclination into him not being athletic/fit enough. He needs some bulk for strength but it must be muscle rather than fat.

I think there's a few players who are in a similar position, Chambers, Morgan and Lynch all could do with slimming slightly. Although I feel Chambers has lost some since BD arrived.

4 sessions a day in pre-season? I doubt it. He'll just sign for Newcastle and go on one of Kinnear's "pancakes for breakfast" US roadtrips.

Have you actually seen Big Wes with his shirt off? He's a wall of pure muscle. No fat on him.

His arse and thighs are far from in shape though.

I'd say our fittest player is McCleary, not in a gay way before anyonhe starts!

Not in a gay way of course.

Wes will have some fat on him when you two cover his "wall of muscle" in ice cream and lick it off.

Read this about a week ago. Find it quite hilarious really. Perhaps a valid point really because although he doesn't look fat you wouldn't regard him as a high energy player.

I said the same thing in the 'Gareth McCleary' thread a few weeks ago to much dispute from posters with an inferior footballing knowledge..

I'm glad king Billy agrees with me.

Like mouldy suggests, McGugan has never had the stamina of someone like Chris Cohen. I've always thought that McGugan is just not cut out for a pure central midfield role because of that. But look what Derby have done with Commons, who is a similar kind of player to McGugan in that regard. If you want to play him, play to his strengths and you will benefit a lot more from his talent.

That said, if BD can improve McGugan's stamina in such a way, I'd be very impressed and Lewis would be twice the player for it.

unfortunately though his "ring" tastes like marmite
