Tom Cleverley

In what is the season of sharing I thought it best to share now what I have heard about a potential loan move from Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window and travelling fans will have a chance to cast an eye over the player on boxing day.

Tom Cleverley's loan runs out with Watford in January and he is also out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season. As it stands Watford want to extend the 20 year olds loan up to the end of the season and Newcastle United are also considering a move but with the Reds pushing on up the table now they want to take the youngster on loan with a view to offering him a contract at the end of the season when his deal with Manchester United ends. As Cleverley is under 24 Forest would still be required to pay a fee for the player but how much that might turn out to be is anyones guess.

Cleverley made his debut for Watford against Forest in the Hornets 4-2 win at the City Ground earlier in the season and has gone on to make 19 appearances scoring seven times and is considered by many to have been Watfords stand out player this season after Tommy Smith left for Portsmouth. The youngster has featured five times for the England U21's team but has yet to score for them.

Billy Davies has mentioned bringing in a goal scoring midfielder a few times already and Cleverley is proving to be one of the hottest young English players in the game, or at least of those available for transfer.

The biggest stumbling block may come if Manchester United intend to keep Cleverley. In this situation they will most likely want to keep the Basingstoke born player at Watford knowing they can't afford to offer the player a long term deal due to financial woes giving them time to tie him to a new deal. Cleverley himself may also prefer a move to Newcastle if anywhere at all with good friend and former room mate Danny Simpson currently at the North East club.

Would be a brilliant signing, cannot see it happening though. I think plenty of lower half Premiership clubs would be interesting in snapping up such a promising young talent.

If he does sign then it would surely lead to McGugan's departure, at least on loan.

Sorry guys...we made an agreement while back with Man U to keep him for the season.

Its Lansburys loan spell that runs out.

I agree the former is a very good player and really adds so much to our attack and isn't afraid to get stuck in.

Its a bit murky, after researching a bit the same sites saying he has agreed to extend his loan deal also a few weeks later say Newcastle are planning a January raid for him.

Perhaps its been "agreed" he will stay until the season end, but its not actually official, or perhaps Man U have the right to recall him, which means they can sell him ?

Billy doesn't like to do loans that much unless it's a loan with an intention to make permanent.

Doubt we can get Cleverley , Watford is not that daff to let his loan period slide without extending it. Instead of Cleverley , maybe we should cast our eye on Charlie Adam.

Loans are ideal for a club in promotion contention.

It means we can get Premiership quality, as they know they can walk away in the summer if we do not get promotion and we have the option of buying them in the summer if we do.

Better to take Premier quality on loan at this stage, as opposed to spending money on players that might not cut the grade if we do.

I am sure Billy will be looking for loans only, with no permanant signings until the summer.

It's not really up to Watford though is it?

They will want to keep him all season (If they haven't already lol ) but wil have to sort a loan fee and convince Man Utd that it's where he should be. If Newcastle, Forest or anyone else bid more to loan him and Man Utd would prefer him to go there then that's where he'll go.

As for Adam... Overrated and Blackpool will want stupid money for him because he's had a bit of attention.

I'd like us to go for Shorey and a left winger to take a chance on that we can bring in because if it doesn't work out we've still got relative cover for it. The rest of the team I'm happy with as it is, cover for Gunter at right back would be nice but I think that'll be Maloney's job next year.

Adam is overrated in what sense ?

Scored the winner against us at the city ground , totally ran the show against derby last saturday. Already scored 8 goals this season from midfield. He's a far more realistic target than Cleverley.
