Interesting read that, if you can get past the rugby waffle at the start. The writer is asking, what would you do if you could chose your play-off opponents?

The last point he makes made me think how it might have affected our last two outings.

So, 2006/2007

3 Blackpool 46 24 11 11 76 49 83 Promoted
4 Nottingham Forest 46 23 13 10 65 41 82
5 Yeovil Town 46 23 10 13 55 39 79
6 Oldham Athletic 46 21 12 13 69 47 75

If we'd been allowed to chose, would you have chosen Yeovil? Or, more realistically, if Blackpool had been allowed, do you think they'd have chosen anyone else? Might we have gone up if they'd chosen us?

And, 2002/2003

3 Sheffield United 46 23 11 12 72 52 80
4 Reading 46 25 4 17 61 46 79
5 Wolverhampton Wanderers 46 20 16 10 81 44 76 Promoted
6 Nottingham Forest 46 20 14 12 82 50 74

Would Warnock have chosen us? If we'd been allowed to chose, might we have gone for somebody else?

Bit of fun really, also interesting just to talk about the idea. Imagine if both ourselves and D*rby were in the play-offs! The choosing would be fun then.

In all honesty I would have stuck with Yeovil as Blackpool were in great form at the time and Oldham had already given us a right thumping earlier in the season.

As for the other game, I think we would have gone out against either Reading or Wolves over two legs and to be honest, we did all the hard work against Sheff U only to capitulate late in the game. We all know we should have gone through.

I can only hope that its third time lucky in the play-offs, whatever division we are in!

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that we 'chose' Yeovil.

The game against Crewe we certainly played for a draw, and afterwards Calderwood had stated that he had sent someone to watch Yeovil for the few weeks before.

Obviously wasn't the best move, but at the time it seemed the easiest.

It was the easiest. We were just a load of old crap in the second leg.

Would have still chosen Yeovil.

If we couldn't prevent a home mauling at their hands what chance did we stand against an in form Blackpool?
